A Competitor Link Building Tactic To Increase Your Rankings earn by blogging adsense income

Link-building is commonly regarded as one of the most important activities for SEO.

Google doesn’t give too many clues away about the algorithm controlling its search engine result pages, but even its staff commonly advise website owners about the importance of building a strong backlink profile.

Each quality backlink from a credible source to your page will boost your website’s authority.

You will seem more like an expert on a given topic, which is crucial when it comes to increasing your rankings.

Are your competitors outranking you due to more quality backlinks?

The same people that are linking to your rivals should be more than happy to direct followers back to your channels as well.

Simply put, competitor link building is when you find out who links to your competitor and get them to link to you instead.

I’ll detail how to use the skyscraper technique in combination with keyword research through Ahrefs to give your page a boost and hack your competitors’ backlinks.

If you haven’t heard of this method, it’s when you improve upon the content your rival pages offer, then reach out to the sites that link to those lesser pages and get them to link to you instead.

In this example, let’s pretend you’re a landscaping company.

Step 1

The first step? Have a page worth linking to.

Your page should be filled with quality content that encourages readers to engage with your page. This includes optimizing your blog posts with high-volume search terms and incorporating different formats (such as infographics and whitepapers) to keep it interesting.

Step 2

Find out who your competitors actually are.

Use a keyword database such as Ahrefs to research the keywords that relate to your company the strongest.

Take note of the domains that dominate the most keyword rankings, then choose the top three. These will be the competitors that you’ll be targeting in this tactic.

Step 3

Next, use Ahrefs to find out what your competitor’s most popular content is.

Type your targeted domain into the site explorer, then filter the search to organize “Pages” by “Best by links.” Ignoring obvious results such as the homepage, take note of which pages customers are interacting with the most.

Ahrefs is also an excellent backlink checker. On the Site Explorer page, click on the “External” tab under “Backlinks” to see which pages have backlinks to your competitor’s website.

Step 4

Figure out what your competitors are missing on these pages, then create it.

Do your rival pages feature a great deal of content, but have poor organization or no visuals? Maybe they fail to cover tips for home gardeners, or have low-quality videos?

Take the time to assess what their content is lacking, and fill in the gaps on your own page.

For example, if a competitor only provides surface-level instructions on how to create a raised bed garden, take it to the next level by creating an instructional video to accompany your content.

Supplement this media format with a detailed blog post and plenty of high-quality graphics.

Step 5

Now you’re ready to share your content with your rival’s backlinks!

Using the data you sourced using Ahrefs, visit each page and determine how your competitor was able to have their link published.

Did they comment under a blog post with it, or include it as part of an answer in a forum? Perhaps they included it as part of a guest post where they provided commentary on an industry topic.

Replicate this tactic for each page. It takes some time and dedication, but the results are worth it.
