Hey everyone. It looks like I'll be getting hired as an SEO/copywriter for an e-commerce company.
The bulk of my work will be writing and editing content on their e-commerce website - everything from product descriptions to blog posts/articles.
I am a freelance writer but have no formal SEO training. Most of my SEO knowledge comes from several years of experience building my own Wordpress websites (two of which are doing pretty well and making me about 200 bucks a month).
I want to do the best job that I can so I'm looking for some advice on two things:
1) I will have a meeting with the company tomorrow to discuss the position. Their main priority is to rank higher on Google. What should I do to prepare?
2) My general approach to SEO is:
- Google the keywords I want to rank for and look at the top results; use this information to create content that serves the searcher even better than these sites
- Link internal pages
- Make sure the website loads fast and is mobile friendly
- Use enticing titles, headings and subheadings with relevant keywords
- Change post url to include desired keywords
- Add relevant images/videos, include keywords in the alt text and name for images
- Break content into blocks of 2-6 lines for easier reading
- Edit the meta description to make sure it no only includes the keywords, but also entices a searcher on Google to click the link
This is not an exhaustive list but the most consistent and important things I try to do. Is this good enough of a starting point? What do I need to improve on?
