My mother has a wordpress site, babyreference.com, that seems to have disappeared from Google entirely. Everything looks hunky-dory in the search console. No blocked resources, no crawl errors, no security issues. But no matter what you search on Google the site will not appear except for a couple random PDFs hosted there. I have tried doing a re-crawl and everything says successful but still no results on Google.
The site was hacked about a year ago and Google blacklisted it but has since 'reapproved' it after filing for appeal. Does that have something to do with it? I will say that the spam injected into the site showed up on Google, but none of the real pages do right now.

I have imported my first sample of product X from China and I am pleased with the product so I plan on placing a small order of 50 more to sell to start. Profit margins are very appealing, but on top of the $40/month, I would also be paying 15% to Amazon. Is FBA worth the extra money?
Hello, I love this subreddit and browse it daily! I am wanting to print recipe cards for a new company I am starting, we will be sending out recipe cards and also letting people send us their recipes for a chance to be in the months recipe cards sent out. There will be 11 cards total (An introduction card and ten different recipe cards) so I have been looking for a printing company to print my cards.
I have the cards saved in .pdf printing format and for the correct measurement (4x6") but the big issue comes from not the quantity but the difference in cards. On many sites the going rate for a quantity of around 500 cards is $80...However, I haven't found a printing company that will let me order 500, instead all of the companies have me order 50 sets of 11, which bumps the cost to over 200+ dollars. I'm not a printer expert so not sure why this happens even though they are the same cards with different designs...But this makes it so I am unable to profit, I would love to buy from an online printing company due to the different card stocks and finishes available...But I don't really know what to do since being charged over 100 more dollars for the same quantity is biting me in the butt.
I would love any advice you all may have for this! I'm not really well adept on the printing side so I don't really know what other options I have.

I've just finished off one of my marketing campaigns for my friend's business and I've upticked his sales by 90%. I'm a great marketer but I'm having trouble finding more customers. (Wait, if you're as great as you say you are why can't you find more clients.)

We recently launched 2 SaaS platforms and have put around $250k USD through our paypal account in 3 months (the account is business registered and verified for around 1 year now).
First month we generated 60k revenue and were slapped with a $5000 minimum reserve + 12% rolling reserve over 30 days. Contacted the team at PayPal and negotiated removing the minimum reserve but increased the 12% rolling to 45 days. This make sense it mitigates their risk.
We reinvested a lot of that capital and expanded marketing on our second SaaS which launched at the beginning of may. We generated an additional $180k during the 10 day launch period (lifetime account - now changed into a monthly model).
PayPal slapped us with a $15k minimum reserve and 12% rolling for 45 days. They took $15k from the rolling reserve and moved it into the minimum. They refused to budge on the minimum this time.
Fast forward to last week. They decided our processing volume is increasing too fast and again raised our minimum reserve to $22,830.64 (I'm not joking, its that exact amount).
They also raised the rolling reserve to 35% for 45 days. The worst thing is they took $4k from our available balance which we kept in there in case of disputes/refunds plus to pay bills like server costs. They moved that $4k into the minimum reserve as well.
We have had zero chargebacks and a dispute rate of around 1.5% - Typically the disputes are people not receiving login details etc. We show our support helpdesk url on both the receipt and on the warning screen before they open the dispute. I'm not sure why customers still open disputes when their issue can be resolved in 15 minutes using our helpdesk.
I have tried working with PayPal to lower the minimum and come to an agreement on the rolling. I doubt many businesses can afford 35% rolling reserves. 12% made sense in terms of mitigating PayPal's risk.
PayPal completely ignores my calls and emails responding with preset macro responses so I've been left with no choice but to lodge a formal complaint with the financial ombudsman.
If you're a new startup and need cash flow to expand - think twice about using PayPal.
I have a small startup business that provides sales lead generation services as well as mass email marketing assistance to various clients. I've recently also started providing things like infographics and shorter animations for customers to help build their digital library up for more effective email send outs. Since day one in my designers career I am fucking disappointed by how many pepople don't know what's good design and how it's made. I can't educate everyone, but I hope at least you guys will change your mind about design and if you someday become my clients it will be easier for us to cooperate.
1. Bullshit designers. "This style is clean, fresh, and modern. It will establish your brand in the marketplace and differentiate you from competitors." <--- That's a statement most desginers use in some kind of variation. It's wrong, vague and garbage thing to say. Why? Style accomplishes nothing, establishing a brand in the marketplace means nothing and none of them is measurable.
Weak designers just think about aesthetics - cool visuals, trendy colors, but it goes far beyond that. They don't think about what makes people to buy or not to buy product. Their reasoning behing putting testimonial section in your website"Everyone has it and it looks good." Good designers reason: "Testimonials show that you're trusted by others and have your product made a good impact on them. So it will build trust in visitor's eye." More on this a bit later.
2. Misguided clients. If a client comes to us asking "I would like a pink website, with slider and testimonial section." And when I ask them "Why?" 99% of the time they will answer "Because it looks nice and everyone has slider and testimonials." When you don't know what to say, you say the same things that others say.
In a perfect world a client would say "My product is XXX, it's different because XXX, our target audience is XXX, what would be the best way to approach them?" Now we're talking!
3. Every section in your website should raise the temperature in your clients buy-o-meter. Now open your landing page and be fair to yourself - does every section works toward a goal of sale. Go through these questions.
It's clear what you do in first 5 seconds. Example - cloud file storage service. If we would use tagline "XXX - your files friend." it doesnt say shit about the service. Instead we could use "XXX - cloud file storage. Your files best friend." Just make it super fucking clear.
Can you find everything in a few seconds that your potential costumer would be looking for. Let's use Cloud file storage service again. What are the most likely things that your client wants to see? Pricing, storage size, software. Ask someone who doesn't know your website to find those things - is it easy, or they have to wander around your website guessing.
Are you addressing fears of your clients? What would you fear when looking for cloud file storage? Most likely - how safe are your files. Address that shit! "No file losses! Daily storage backup." Write down your clients fears and can you find them addressed on your website?
When asking them for favour are you giving them something in return? Every shit is being decided. You're reading this post because you think it provides value for you. You work because you wan't money. So give me a fucking reason to give you my e-mail. Free e-book? Discount? Fuck yes!
Do you have some vague shit on your website? Be fair! If you have section with icons and text below them which says: "Individual approach" "Best quality", "Best prices", congratufuckinglations you've said nothing and I'm about to close your boring website.
How much are you talking about how good you are and how much about what your clients get? If more about you, it sucks. "XXX, best web design firm in town." "After re-designing our client's XXX website, their online sales increased by 23%" I bet you know which sounds and sells better.
That's how a good designer thinks. This is how you deliver much more than aesthetics. Design is not art, design is research, analysis and problem solving.
4. How to filter out shitty designers. Ask about their design process - a lot of them will say that they do research. Ask them how does their research process look like, how deep they are digging. Do they look from your customer perspective or just making cool visuals?
5. How to get best results from design process. Treat your designer like partner, not "I pay, you make." Because for the best results both sides should be deeply involved, noone knows your business and your customers better than you do. Give a designer as much info as you can, they will filter out the information that they can use.
Trust designer as an expert. If you don't, don't hire him in first place. A good designer will be able to provide an argumentation behind every element in his design and deny your "Can you make this blue and bigger" with confidence.
Don't think subjectively. Think from your client's perspective. Your client's might like your website wehn you don't and might not like it when you do. Clients buy from you, not you from yourself.

Hello, let's assume, I had a product called "PC Booster". I look at "speed up computer" on KWFinder and see the difficulty is only about 52. So, from that stand point, it seems like cool, I think I can rank for this keyword.
However, as I look more into the keywords, I notice the top 10 results are just articles from very big websites, such as lifewire, howtogeek, pcmag, etc. I do not see even a single "product" for Speed up computer, just articles.
So, I am assuming this will be much harder than I thought it would be. If I wanted to rank for "Speed up computer", my best bet would probably be write a great article and SEO the article, and then have the article point to my product, is that correct?

A lot of people think quitting your job to take on entrepreneurship is dumb and you're pretty much destined to fail. I personally disagree, quitting my job has motivated me even more to build my business. I worked a 9-5 job and at work I didn't have the time to work on my site or come up with ideas and I didn't get much done outside of work because as soon as I got home I got too tired to think about working on my business.

It's not a job, it's a lifestyle- being an entrepreneur means that you have to be creative, enthusiastic and have the capacity to take risks. Remember, you are doing this for you not for anyone else (besides your employees, customers and business partners of course)

Taking a leap of faith to become an entrepreneur is super risky and I know that by quitting my job and living off a sporadic income was a risk but as far as results, there are no stable results in being an entrepreneur, your results are based on how hard you work, where you see your business going and doing whatever it takes to get there. if you want to start a business to earn a couple thousand bucks then work for it, if you want to earn millions? Same thing work for it !
To finish off, I'm happy I took this leap of faith. I'm happy that I'm building this lifestyle for myself and my goal is have a successful business, be happy and be the best damn business woman I can be.

Looks like we'll be buying leads and the difference in price we've seen between firms is staggering. $0.55 per lead down to $0.01 per lead. I'm guessing that most providers aren't that great and we'll get what we pay for. Some firms will provide a few hundred as a sample, others want minimum purchases in the thousands of dollars. About 6 months ago (longer really, but I don't want to admit how long this has taken me) I got fed up with all of the manual work I was doing to try to dig through all of the different sites out there to find freelance/contract work. I started building myself some tools to aggregate and filter all of that down to a manageable size.
In the end I found that I had been spending hours to find (and usually reject) like 2-4 posts that were possibilities for me given my skillset / location / time available / etc. Until I built this site I thought those hours were necessary, but really it was just mindless busy work making me think I was getting something done. I have built out my tool and made it so that others can use it too.

Hey Guys. We have a product line that has done very well on Amazon using FBA. We sell 500 to 1000 units per week. Our item is a gift, 9 out of 10 are shipped to somebody other than the buyer. We have a website you can buy our products on, and some additional (better) products that we don't sell on Amazon.
On the site we get about 300 to 500 new visitors per week. We know most of these are people who find our product on Amazon and come to our site to check us out. But, we only sell 10 to 20 items per week on the site. One big hurdle we will always have is that we can't offer the free 2 day shipping Amazon does. And we may not seem as safe as buying on Amazon. AND customers love Amazon prime, it's like a warm fluffy blanket out of the drier. Our goal here is 2 fold:
1 - Get more people buying on the site.
I think the answer here is incentives. We haven't tried this much. Any suggestions on proven incentives that work well?
2 - Once we have new customers, market to them and get more business from them. Turn them in to life long customers.
Our product is a great gift, and it is a consumable. We already get a lot of repeat business on Amazon, but these are Amazon customers and we are not allowed to market to them through email. We have a little over 500 email addresses from sales on our site and our email sign-up. We also have about 10,000 followers on Facebook. We have no strategy in place to market to these people and get them more engaged. We need to set up an email campaign and have thought of starting a loyalty program of some sort. Need your collective guidance. I'm looking to start a Roofing Contracting company in Colorado. I am unsure of how to obtain a contractor license as a corporation, not as a individual. I can hire an employee with a Roofing Contractor license but then I'm reliant on that one person and cannot operate without them. I think this is why most Roofing companies are small, but I want to start something that is poised to grow to be nationwide.

I own a SASS that makes it easy for funeral directors to webcast a funeral. A lot of families also request a DVD copy of the service. Currently we have a guide instructing funeral directors how to make a DVD copy themselves.
Recently this is becoming more of a challenge as new computers don't have DVD burners. Even though the DVD is becoming obsolete, I believe older family members are going to continue to want a DVD for a few more years.
I want to add a "Buy DVD" button under the webcast. I will burn the DVD and send it to the family. I would need to charge a modest fee to cover shipping, supplies, and my time.
I ran this by my customers and they are excited that they won't have to be burdened by this task. My only problem is figuring out the licensing if the funeral has any music in it. Our customers are currently licensed under a special funeral webcasting license, but this license specifically states we can not charge for copies of the service.
From the research I have done, the only way to do this legally is to contact every single song owner, and get permission on each song. This is obviously not feasible. There has got to be someway I can legally do this?

After giving it a lot of thought and doing a lot of research, I have decided that this idea would be best executed by a very large corporation. The corporation I'm speaking about owns a brand name (through a buyout years ago) that has basically been completely eliminated by technology entirely. The corporation is a huge conglomerate much like Proctor and Gamble, or Johnson and Johnson - they make hundreds of different products and is not known to have many (or any) technology/service sectors of their business. To make a long story short, my idea would completely revive a very well known but dead brand name but the business is technology/web service. I can try to execute the idea myself but i have absolutely zero aptitude for programming so i would have to completely outsource all development and also come up with a brand. If I can sell the idea to this company to revive an old brand - they certainly have the resources to execute it with their deep pockets. How can I pitch this idea to them without them stealing it and if thats even possible, how can I prevent from getting Winklevoss'd out of a big payday because, like the Winklevoss brothers, I would essentially not provide any additional value other than just my idea?

1) A link back to our main "agency" page, agency used loosely
2) Links to other pages in our network in the footer, something like "Part of the [blah] network" with a bulleted list to other services
The sites will be hosted on the same server.
I'm not trying to create a private blog network, it just might start to look like one though.

We've pivoted 6 times up until now and just recently people started reacting to the last version of what we do. But not as fast as I'd like to.
What we do for businesses: We automate your quotes, and get you clients in an easy to understand dashboard.
What we do for people: We auction your needs, getting you several ranked options (based on your interests), instead of you wasting time searching and comparing.
In the last pivot we've applied the aforementioned to housing, so we interconnect people who need a room, with people/SMB's who rent a room.
We are in the last phase before launching and testing seems nice.
But I can't quite get away from this thought, this feeling, that all will crumble in an instant, it's getting on my nerves.
My question is: Right now we are getting a bit of traction, how do we recognize market fit?
This question gets me in a freaking rabbit hole: are we doing the right thing? should we look for another way? do we need more testing/validation? and on and on.
I'm 43 yo/male. On average I make about $60k a year as a photographer. I've been a photographer for 5 years. I also do video, audio, I write and I can install, manage and maintain a wordpress website. I do all these things at a very high level (eg, I did the video of Celine Dion's recently sold Jupiter Island castle.)
I set off 5 years ago to make money as a photographer and I've ended up becoming a master at this as well as a few other key skills I’ve picked up along the way. Today, I'm a full time photographer/videographer doing weddings, real-estate photography, and corporate work.
I am moderately successful and make decent money, but I'm bored with certain aspects of my business and want to push into other areas where my skills could be applied to make more money.
So it’s time to reboot and try some new approaches. In essence I need to start cold calling again and rebuilding my client base. But I don’t want to find new clients who just want photos, I want to offer a more comprehensive product.
So I'm thinking of positioning myself as a website developer and I think I've found a niche I could fit into perfectly.

They suck.
These old-school H.T.M.L websites suck because the layout and content is dated, cluttered and ultimately boring. They may serve their function of communicating basic information, but they miss their chance to begin the process of building trust and establishing a brand.
From talking to some of these businesses owners over the years, I believe many of them would like to have a modernized website, but ultimately struggle generating quality content. And without quality content, many business people instinctively know spending money on a 'web site' is a waste of time.
Generating content is hard and paying someone to do it is expensive therefore many business owners don't bother updating or modernizing their web sites.
I believe these business owners are aware there is an opportunity cost to showing an outdated website to potential clients, and a risk of being perceived as less trustable and perhaps even amateurish for their lack of effort.
My skills are perfectly suited to help these kinds of clients overcome this barrier.
I can rapidly build a stunningly beautiful website by combining a company's existing digital assets (current flyers, former promotions, headlines, customer feedback, etc...) with new ones (photos, videos, info-graphics etc..) all wrapped up in a wordpress solution.
Using the company's pre-existing materials, fast wordpress development, and stylized layouts generated by impactful media created by me in real time, my service will modernize a company's web site and to do it fast and inexpensively.
Once the contract is signed, I plan on acting fast.
For example, I see a typical contract playing out as follows;
I show up in morning get installed in an unused corner office, kitchen or wherever. I start by setting up my gear and quick introductions around the office.
The company has already advised the staff of my presence and purpose, so everyone is cooperative.
I begin by photographing the office/work space, I take detail shots (close ups or products and store) and headshots. I also set up basic video (timelapse of building, employees working etc..) Armed with the photos and videos I’ve just created, I sit down and begin to configure and instal wordpress. At the same time, I import, organize and edit my photos and videos.
Once this is done, I’m ready to get started. I estimate to get from the point of showing up, to being ready to start re-building the website is roughly half a day.
My next step is to start building the site. My approach to this is to use a one page wordpress site and think in sections. Each element that’s currently on their web site will be turned into one section and spruced up.
I will end up with many sections strung together. These can easily be re-order, or moved to separate pages if needed. But my job on day one is to rapidly build up these sections and propose new ones where I can.
At the end of the first day, my client’s old web site has all been transferred over to wordpress and visually upgraded.
On day 2 we start with a meeting with key players. We go over all the changes, rearrange sections and add whatever pages are needed. We’ll be able to tweak or re-do images, catch up with people who missed the first day of head shots (there’s always someone who can’t be there,) and so on. In other words, day 2 is spent wrapping up, tweaking and closing loose ends.
And that’s it. I hand the owners the keys to their new web site. Additional work can be bought and paid for separately, and judging by the repeat customers I’ve had over the years I bet it won’t be long before these people start calling me for more than just photos.
As you can see, a lot rests on being able to work quickly. But this is really my strength. I am hyper efficient (adhd) when doing intense, time-sensitive tasks like this and for some reason I always seem to produce my best work during these moments.
As a wedding photographer, I must thrive in a chaotic, high pressure social situation and still produce amazing photos (trust me the competition is very tough here.)
It is on this premise, speed and quality, that I plan on beating competitors on price.
Most will charge about $1500 just for a basic empty wordpress site. Photo, video, any writing or extras are outsourced and usually very expensive. I think what I’ve proposed would cost roughly a minimum of $3000 or much more depending on many different variables. My fee would be $1500 plus expenses (so client most pay for hosting, templates etc..) Anything not done in those 2 days are billed hourly. My plan would be to do 2 contracts a week, and leave one day for dealing with loose ends, and cold calling to find new business.
However, I am struggling to understand how to get started and position myself.
What I do know is cold calling works great for me and that's how I plan on reaching out to clients, but what I'm much less sure of is what to tell people once I've got them on the phone.
Am I a photographer selling my photos to enhance their web site? Am I a media company? A web site company? A photography company?
I’ve had this problem of defining myself for years. I’ve always felt the need to separate my services. For example, it doesn’t look good to mix wedding photography with real-estate photography. And many clients like to imagine I specialize doing one thing and imagine I must not know what I'm doing if I wear many hats. So what I am? A one person media company I guess?
So my questions to reddit are this;
What do you think of my idea? How should I go about getting my first clients? What should I build as a website to start (since I have no clients yet?) What should I try and sell people when I cold call them? Ie, am I selling my photography? Web site skills?

Here is why I think keyword research is irrelevant BS for some industries and why the common advice, that Google is smart enough to detect small variations in keywords and treat them similarly, is wrong.
I photograph weddings. I have great long articles with original ideas. I've had them syndicated across several big photography sites. (Not wedding blogs, because they're mostly interested in photos and a bit of cloying text to accompany them).
At no point did I engage in keyword research of the type where you set out to "answer questions" people are asking Google. I wrote articles based on questions I would be interested in if I were getting married or if I were a novice photographer.
Some topics inevitably ended up featuring a few of the keywords research would have suggested, but most did not. But here's where the common technique fails. When people search for a wedding photographer, they mostly type "wedding photographer" or add a local keyword to that phrase to make it "wedding photographer [city]".
Now look at those results in keyword research tools and Google autosuggestion: they'll show you variants like "[city] wedding photographer", "[city] wedding photography", "[city] wedding photographers", and combos for [city] at the end instead of the beginning. You'll see similar recombinations of "best wedding photographer [city]", "[city] wedding photography prices", and so on.
It's impossible to write unique and meaningful content for each variant of "wedding photograph-" (-er, -ers, -y) in addition to combinations with city names (at start or end) and all the other words, too.
And before anyone says that different suffixes are treated as the same thing, I've got news for you, they're definitely not. I've been tracking my SERP performance for the different variations and suffix combos, and they're all different. "Wedding photography" is high (first or second) but "wedding photographer" is several pages lower, and "wedding photographers" is trailing on 2nd or 3rd page.
SEO gives me a headache.
Just a quick question, screaming frog is pulling a lot of url with {link} in the address at the end. Why does this happen? Is it because they're tracking codes?
Is it just me or are news organizations really fucking stingy with their links?
I have worked in SEO for almost a year and I am yet to get a link from an online news source. Here are examples where I have tried:
I have heard every excuse, "we only link if the entire article is about them", "we only edit articles if there is an error", "we are not allowed to link to other sites".
I get it. You don't want readers leaving your site, but I don't want that either, I want that sweet sweet link juice you unhelpful assholes.
Anyone else have any similar experiences? Anyone have actual tips that work in this regard? How can I get these damn links.
A friend of mine is selling his web based novelty slipper business, it's a great business selling novelty animal slippers and has long established, great SEO/domain authority. Fully automated and outsourced fulfilment and selling through amazon in all EU regions turning over around £100k per annum.
He took it over in 2008 and hasn't really kept up with eCommerce tech/trends so he wants to pass it on to concentrate on his new brick & mortar business.
He's dropped the price right down to try and shift it through regular channels but isn't having much luck (I think because the people he's selling it through concentrate on brick & mortar buyers. I considered advising he sell through something like Flippa as it's a fully web business but they seem to be primarily US so maybe this isn't the best option?
I'd like to take on the site myself but imo needs a good facelift and to do the job justice would need some time invested into stuff like google suggested products and remarketing to bring to its full potential and my own business is taking all of my time right now. The only real employee is his son who looks after customer service, I guess this could be easily and cost effectively outsourced to a VA or similar task service.
Would love to get some feedback/ideas on how anyone has flipped a UK based business like this in the past?
I started at my new agency job yesterday (yay!). I was given a corporate email address which I was instructed to also make as a Google account. I have a previous Google account that has an up to date AdWords certification on it. My agency wants me to somehow merge the two accounts so my corporate Google account has my certification associated with it.
Any tips on how to do this?

My friend made me this logo on his iPad and it is exactly what I'm looking for, I really like it a lot. The only issue is that I sent it to the manufacturer and they said they need a image that was made in Adobe Illustrator and have a much higher image quality or else the print won't have the enough detail and will look lower quality.
My friend agrees, the logo is not very high image quality but he doesn't have the tools to recreate it in higher quality himself. So I'm looking for ideas of how I might be able to replicate my JPG image logo into a higher quality file.
It seems that it would need to be remade from scratch. Is there an easy way to do this? Are there any services that might do this? The logo itself is pretty simple, its only a black and white I'll attach it below.
