iPhone 馃摫Repair Company entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Hello

I have been fixing iPhones and android phones for years for family and friends, mainly broken digitizers and screens.

I'm interested in expanding my experience into helping others in my Region but also across the states. I would be able to charge half what independent companies charge.

Any recommendations on how I can market this on the internet. Obviously tons of options but trying to narrow down best form of media to inform customers of my service. Honestly I'm more of a finance and tech guy and lack the skills in marketing.

Any help would be appreciate

Friend asked me to join his creative engineering startup entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

I think my question is pretty different than most, but I think this is the best spot to ask my question. Also it's pretty long, so TL:DR; right here:

Asked to grow a friend's business together that isn't in a market I like. Should I work for little with the potential of switching to something I do like?

I'm a student in Industrial Design, but in my spare time I greatly enjoy webdevelopment, basically doing everything from user experience, to design to developing custom WordPress websites. Yesterday I was asked to join (a very good) friend's creative engineering agency that has a lot of potential, working for pretty big companies already. Currently they create 3D models and technical drawings for existing companies, which I don't really enjoy. But they're also advertising product development and a little graphic and webdesign, though that really isn't their focus.

His question to join was two-fold. On the one side, he wants a good website, which I would be paid for. Obviously something I'm up for and not the problem. On the other hand, he wants me to join the company and help him grow it, for which he would not be able to pay me (much) for the time being. I really do enjoy growing a business, and would happily join him if they would be doing something I love. But they're not.

I'm not sure if I should join them with the potential of also starting webdevelopment and/or product development. Or on the promise of being paid later on for growing the company if it goes well. I really like where they're going, who they're working with etc. I just really can't justify working for practically free, since I have a ton of experience and I could be paid now at an existing company.

It's really hard for me to put this down cohesively, so if anything's unclear let me know.

Dear startups: Please remind me what you do in your emails entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Anyone else have this problem?

I get a lot of emails from new apps and startups.

Over the last few years, I have signed up for updates to, downloaded, and tested, literally hundreds if not thousands of apps and services. My inbox is full of emails telling me ‘the new thing is finally out’. But I see one error committed again and again.

Startups don’t remind me why I should care.

I cared once. I can care again. But you have to help me out.

The emails look nice. They have a good looking design, and a friendly call to action button. But all they essentially says is, “AwesomeApp is now available!”

In my head I think “That is great… I could potentially be excited about this… but what is AwesomeApp again?”

It is easy to see why this happens so often. When you are building a company, or an app, or a new project, that thing is your life. You eat, breath and sleep your thing. You forget that no one else does. No one cares about your thing as much as you do.

But when you don’t remind me why I should care, you are wasting a golden opportunity.

I gave you my email address! I wanted to know more. I just forgot! This is the easiest sale in the history of sales. Just tell me why I should care. Show me who this app is for. Tell me how it will solve my problems.

Two extra sentences can make your emails so much better.

When you send out an release email, or almost any email, your only purpose is to get me to take action. If I can’t remember what you do, or why I should care, that is probably not going to happen.

So in almost every communication, remind people what you do. Remind people why they should care. Remind people when and where they asked for more info.

I was interested once. You can get me interested again.

iPhone app beta test entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Hey guys, I came up with this idea for this app about 3 days ago. I basically haven't left my computer for the last 48 hours and I built something that I think is really cool.

The problem I am trying to solve with the app is that I want to meet people with similar interests and have a discussion with them (cliche, but you'll see once you try the app).

I finished the app a couple of hours ago and all I have to do is wait for my graphics guy to finish up.

I want to give the app to 10 random people on reddit that I can keep in contact with and get their insight and criticisms into it. I think it's better that way than giving it to my friends because you guys don't know me and will give me real criticisms without worrying about hurting my feelings.

I'm going to be using testflight to distribute it. Testflight requires an email to send it to. So if you're interested you can pm me your email. I'll post on here once I get 10 emails.

I'll most likely be sending the beta invite out on monday, because apple takes a few hours to review the beta, and they also don't work weekends.

Also, it's only for the iPhone currently!

Young entrepreneurs looking for some feedback and advices! entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Hey there.

We are two 18 y/o young adults who just launched a e-shop. We are very interested in entrepreneurial and businesses and we are both very targeted and ambitious. Before university we want to examine the opportunities with drop shipping.

A month ago, we started of at eBay and Amazon but we soon realised that we probably would be able to expand and scale to a greater extent if we build our own site. That decision was a result of eBay’s many fees, big competition and pressed prices. We spent a couple of weeks contacting interesting suppliers on Etsy and built a relationship with them, along with a shop on Shopify. About a week and a half ago, we launched https://allaccs.com/.

To market the site, we have worked on SEO and spent money on FB Ads and Google AdWords. We have, and still are, trying different strategies to gain more buyers. The ROI is poor though. We are struggling with traffic and above all sales. CPC on FB is on average over $1. On Google $0.5. We are of course aware of that it takes time to build a brand and a target group. That it takes time to optimize ads and sites and gain buyers. But the bad results makes us, if not doubt, at least a bit more concerned. Do you think we have chosen products which are not very niched or saleable? Is our website not attractive for buyers? Are our prices to high?

Therefore we turn to this community where we have read a lot of thoughtful answers which have got us reflecting. We would love some constructive criticism (which we believe is the road to success) on our website. What are your best advice in the situation we are in? Feel free to ask us anything and we will try our best to answer detailed.

Help/Advice for getting off the ground entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Hello all. So, I'm not sure how to start this post other than by saying I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place and don't know where to go from here. I've been looking into opening my own business for quite some time now. About two years. Without giving too much information it's a retail business for hobbies like MTG, miniatures, models etc etc. I've been doing a lot of research and studies and they all confirm my thought that it's a wise thing to do. It would be the only store of it's kind in a 15 mile radius. I've even visited those other places to be extremely underwhelmed by what they had to offer. Further, I've developed a business plan and have all my expenses written out so I know exactly where every penny goes. I've already registered as an LLC and have that little bit out of the way.

Needless to say my ideas, experience, research and location (which is smack in the middle of a high foot traffic area and between two schools) make my business, in theory, a winner. Here is the problem. I don't have the money to finance the business. To be safe and get everything up and running I'm going to need about $120,000. I've looked into loan opportunities but they all require cash injections of ~20% which I don't have as well as collateral which, again, I don't have. I live at home in part to help my grandparents and mom due to their health issues and part because it saves me money, but this means I have no house or real property to put up as collateral. I also don't have a lot saved up because I have to travel long distances to work and in general don't make all that much which hurts the whole injection bit.

At this point I don't know what to do. All my research and planning tells me this has the chance to be successful but without a way to get a loan I'm a sitting duck. Does anyone here have any advice or guidance on what I should be doing? Maybe someone was once in the situation I was in and figured out a path. I'm honestly willing to do whatever it takes to get this business up and running and I have all the passion and motivation in the world to do it as well. If I left anything out I'll edit it in the OP. Thanks!

Link to Facebook page or to actual site? entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Hi. I have two Facebook pages that I created a long time ago, both of which contain people from the target audience of a new business I've started. They both have 150k+ likes, so I thought of using these as free publicity. After failing to use any of those as the actual page (failing to change the name to my business' (also, if someone has successfully bypassed this limitation I'd greatly appreciated if you'd let me know how)), I decided to just post links in there (they are active pages so they will have clicks), but I'm not sure if it'd be better to post links to my site, prioritizing conversions, as they don't have to go through my FB page before going to my site to complete a purchase, or post links to my Facebook page, prioritizing a potential trust build with people, as, not leaving Facebook it'd seem less as advertising and more as an actual recommendation from a Facebook page they like.

Thanks!

Is there a demand for single-product eCommerce sites? entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Hey, I'm working on a side-project that allows people to get a storefront for a single-product eCommerce site.

Some Features:

  • Beautiful, responsive one-page product site
  • Hosting (you need to configure domain redirection)
  • Integration w/ Google Analytics, MailChimp, Stripe or PayPal
  • $35/year

Problems:

  • Choice of only three storefronts, since there's only one product
  • User needs to configure their own Stripe, MailChimp, Domain etc.

I can see a lot of people using this. Do you? I'll limit the site to only take 100 users for a few months.

Advice Required For New App Promotion entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

I have an app waiting for review with Apple right now.

It's going to be something like the 30th app I've released. In the past I've done very little marketing of my apps, relying almost entirely on app store search results.

All of my apps are paid apps. Prior to this new app they have all been study guides for professional exams. They make OK money, although the profit is dropping now, but certainly not enough to live off.

This next app teaches people a technique I used to make £3000 while I was at university. It is a process called matched betting, and I provide a calculator to take all of the thought out of the process.

There's going to be a thorough explanation of the process, a quiz feature to help you learn, and the calculator and profit tracker too.

I'm hopeful that this app will make reasonable money, I'm aiming in the region $10-$100 per day.

The strategy I was thinking of was:

  1. Release simultaneously on iOS and Android, with the app free for the first couple of days.

  2. Post to some places on Reddit that might be interested.

  3. Share on my Facebook and social media.

However, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the effectiveness of these methods:

  1. Paid installs: I get so much spam from people offering me paid installs. I'm tempted to try it out, If I bought something like 1000 installs at launch time surely that would shoot me up the charts? Has anyone tried this? Are there any companies that aren't scams?

  2. Paid Reviews: In a similar vein to above, are there any paid review sites that aren't scams? Will they be a worthwhile investment?

  3. Paid Reddit/Voat/Social Posts: There's a company called upvotes<dot>club that offer to post about your product in a variety of places using managed accounts and providing upvotes etc. They want to be paid in crypto currency and it seems a bit dodgy. Has anyone used them? Are they dodgy? Is it worth the hassle?

  4. Facebook Ads: I've tried this in the past, but only for my paid apps, and I don't think it really worked. Maybe worth a shot while it's free for a couple of days to build a buzz?

Is there anything I've missed? Are there other ways to build a buzz and get early traction when releasing an app?

Web site that allows you to test demand by directly messaging users within your target market who are incentivized to respond - would you use? entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Here's the idea: Entrepreneurs sign up to a social community. When they sign up, they fill out some mandatory demographic information: Age range, sex, ethnicity, city, state, country, and approximate income range but NO personally identifiable information (No name, address, SSN, etc.). They could also opt in to assigning other unique tags to their like from a predefined list like medical conditions, special interests, political affiliation, etc. The users could then send other users their elevator video/text pitch and include prototype pictures/embedded video and anything else that could relay the message. They would be able to send this pitch to specific people based on demographic information (i.e, I would be able to select to send my pitch to 25-30yo hispanics in the LA area with the option to provide further filters like republicans or people with diabetes for users who elected to represent that tag). The invitation would invite participants to respond within 7 days and then the invitation would be rescinded. Participants would get a message from an anonymous user with the elevator pitch/text/picture/video/whatever was sent and could click either that they would buy/participate or that they would not buy/participate then be invited to write in a comment that is optional. The trick is, there would be a credit system. In order to send out these pitches to your target market, you have to respond to a reasonable number of pitches and get credits. Not too many to make it annoying, but enough to where you are a valued participant. The more credits you have, the more people you can send out invitations to. Alternatively, you could buy credits (monetization). What are your thoughts? Would you use this?

TL;DR - Users sign up and input required and optional demographic information, and send out pitches to specific demographics by using credits than can be earned by purchasing from the site or responding to other people's pitches. Would you use this?

Launched a new wellness company these are the steps I took. entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Hello everyone long time lurker and I finally felt like I had something to share that would add value to r/entrepreneur. I just launched my new company, Anemone Wellness (http://ift.tt/2tt1wl1). We are a CBD/Hemp health supplement company. We created and manufacture our own custom blends. I thought it might be helpful to detail all the steps I've been through over the last 6 months to move from ideation to execution and launch of a physical product. I am happy to answer any questions or clarify anything. I always find it most helpful to add as much detail as possible so I apologize for the amount of content, but hopefully it provides some value to you all.

Research & Ideas I usually come up with ideas based on problems I have personally encountered, or I find a technology that I can bring to a new industry, or I identify a new trend that can be capitalised on.

I came up with the idea for this company due to a personal problem I had and a new health trend that was brought to my attention. I struggled with anxiety and found that the hormone balancing and relaxation properties of CBD ( Cannabidiol ) helped immensely not to mention the anti-inflammatory aspects of CBD helped me recover quickly after strenuous exercise.

For the research, phase I knew CBD was the answer to a lot of common problems from things like psoriasis and muscle inflammation to anxiety. After determining that CBD was safe to use and legal to ship, I then needed to identify the competitors and how I could set myself a part.

My main competitors were focusing on the CBD exclusively. These would be things like the Stanley Brothers Charlotte’s Web Tinctures, edible gummies, hard candies infused with CBD. I knew based on this I needed to add something extra so I started looking into the benefits of tea. Tea leaves and other herbal remedies have a lot of synergies with CBD. I then started to build different remedies using common and uncommon ayurvedic herbs and thought I would infuse the teas with CBD.

With this idea, I again resumed research to narrow down my competition. I found several companies that offered hemp teas that had the benefits of CBD (and other terpenes), but it was not mixed with other herbs and didn’t focus on using them as potential remedies. There was only one true competitor and they were relatively small. They had tea blends that were focused on flavor and not remedies, but they were infused with CBD. At the time I thought having only one direct competitor was great and I could easily surpass their minimal SEO.

Moving forward I found that the reason they used strongly flavored tea blends was that CBD does not taste great in it’s raw form. It has a strong grass like smell that is a little overwhelming. The taste is pretty mild if you use high quality CBD, but the smell is still quite strong. Unfortunately, most herbs used in these remedies either do not have strong flavors or if they do they are equally unappealing. Tea was looking less and less like it was a good option.

So I again went back to the research phase. I looked into pills, tinctures, and powders. Pills was my first thought as they are swallowed and don’t have to be tasted. I held a small focus group (mostly friends, family, and a few people knowledgeable about the industry). What came out of this were two things. The first, tinctures were in high demand in the dispensaries, but not in health/wellness stores as there was too much competition. The second, was that pills “just aren’t sexy.” I decided to go with the powders. There has been a lot of talk lately about superfood powders, etc so it seemed like a solid choice. All this research took me approx. 30 days with a total of probably 20 hours or so.

MVP Once I decided that I wanted to start with powders I began working on the company itself. I knew from my previous startups I wanted to automate as many processes as possible right off the bat. To start I needed vendors, licenses (LLC and CA seller's permit), packaging, logo/designs, accounting/product tracking software, and of course a sales channel.

Vendors I looked at several vendors that supply the ayurvedic herbs I needed for my remedies. I found that the companies that required an EIN and had an approval process to have the best deals. For example, 1 lb of Chamomile (non USDA Organic) from a wholesale vendor that didn’t require any vetting was $25, while USDA Organic Chamomile from the one that required the licenses was $14.75. Finding these vendors was relatively easy as this is a well established industry.

Where I ran into a lot of problems was sourcing my CBD. There were no vendors out there that required much vetting if any at all. Not only that, but I wasn’t even sure what kind of CBD I needed for my products. There are CBD powders, oils, isolates, water soluble formulations, etc. In the end I found that water soluble CBD formulations would work best for my powders even if they were more expensive than the other kinds of CBD available.

Packaging For packaging, I used 99designs to run a logo contest. Once I had the logo designed I created a basic label for all 5 of my products using photoshop. The labels aren’t the greatest but they will work for an MVP. Once we have some revenue coming in then I will pay for a professional redesign. The actual packaging we are getting from clearbags.com and the labels I print from my office printer.

Accounting/Product Tracking For now I am using CraftyBase. It's a software designed for people who manufacture their own products. It allows us to accurately track our expenses, margins, and inventory, as well as create invoices for our wholesale sales.

Sales Channel For sales I looked at Magento, Shopify, and Wix. I have built sites on all three and felt Shopify would be the easiest and quickest to set up. Shopify was also the only one that had an API linked to craftybase so all of our sales would automatically subtract from our inventory and it would alert us when we needed to make a new batch of any given product. Again, once we are making decent revenue we may switch over to a custom designed magento site to help lower our transaction and hosting fees.

Finding vendors, packaging, running the design contest, setting up craftybase, and creating the shopify site took another 30 days putting in about 2-4 hours a day.

Last month I ordered our first batch of CBD and 35 lbs of herbs to create 12 units of each of our 5 products. Once I created the units, I made sure our sample packaging looked good with our labels etc and then I ordered the packaging for all those units which then took about a week to arrive. I then labeled and packaged everything by hand for this first run.

If we get a large account right off the bat or somehow we become super popular I have talked to several suppliers that can take over manufacturing and packaging so we can scale with any volume.

Launch Our launch was planned for over a month ago, but a few days before launch shopify notified us that our account had been shut down due to our products being against their terms of service. We had to find a new payment processor asap. I called over 50 payment processors and merchant accounts with very little luck. The most affordable one wanted a $1,500 setup fee with a minimum $500 fee per month PLUS 10% per transaction. This caused us our month delay while we redesigned all of our labels packaging and formulas to use a full spectrum hemp extract instead of a CBD isolate. With the hemp extract we were able to use Amazon Pay and a few other services that have allowed very specific hemp products on their sites. We still cannot use shopify's gateway so they charge us an extra 2% per transaction on top of their monthly fee and Amazon pay's 2.9% per transaction.

Finally we were able to launch to friends and family on Tuesday. The goal of this launch was to increase our social media presence and start getting our name out there. I wasn't hopeful for any sales, but we ended up making 7 sales on our first day for a total of $1,200 in revenue. I feel we had a very successful launch and now it's time to sustain our sales.

Moving forward

I plan to add our products to multiple sales channels over the next few weeks (mainly Etsy and Amazon). I want to get our products on FBA so all of our sales can be shipped and managed by them. Once those are all setup I will start running online ads. I have to be careful with these as Facebook, Instagram, etc don't allow hemp products. I am also building up a sales team to do wholesale across the US. I have interviews setup for next week.

Thanks everyone for reading! This is also an updated and expanded cross post that I wrote for openlaunch.io. If anyone has any feedback on our website, http://ift.tt/2tt1wl1 I'd really appreciate it. I have just had friends and family clicking around making sure it all works. Again, I'm happy to answer any questions!

2 Websites - 1 Address earn by blogging adsense income

Dentist A joins Dentist practice. Prior to joining, Dentist A maintained a website. This is where most of Dentist A's business came from, so Dentist A still currently runs the website, continuing to receive a substantial amount of business from it. Dentist practice did not maintain a website, but created one shortly after Dentist A joined the firm. Dentist A's website shows up in local "google places," but Dentist practice website does not. After a bit of research, it looks like Dentist A's "google place" address is the address of dentist practice. Meanwhile, Dentist practice's google place is using the same address.

Because there are two websites using the same address, do you think Google is merging these two websites as one for purposes of Google places? Which would account for why Dentist Practice's website is not appearing very high on google searches?

Been trying to dig to find some distributors for skin care brands (anything from Kiehls to smaller brands) with minimal luck.

Any suggestions on finding one/some? Is it just about going to the ends of google to get lucky? Or is this an industry that you need to go straight to the brand for distribution?

Thanks in advance for any recs or info!

Lifetime deal: Viral Loops for only $49! entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

So I found this deal where they're selling Viral Loops for a lifetime for only $49. It's usually $99 per month so I thought I'd share here for others.

If you don't know what Viral Loops is it's basically the best software out there for creating viral and referral campaigns - it's how Dropbox, Airbnb, Mailchimp and others became multi million $ companies.

Possibly not so useful for everyone, but it has proven to be very valuable to me and I think giveaways are awesome for any business of every shape and size. This link takes you to the website where you can buy this deal.

Why wouldn't a company provide a quote for hosting? entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Hello Reddit,

I'm putting together a full cost calculation to determine a fairly accurate buy-in cost for everything needed to get a business up from the start. Part of this involves a small digital footprint in having a basic web site, storage and scanners hosted in a data center. This all fits on one rack. I reached out for a quote and a specific company is being very douche-baggy and not offering a quote. I get the vibe that they are only interested in harvesting data to sell, or are against any kind of small business. I really want to use them, because I have seen their facilities and know their policies along with the regulatory requirements for the industry I'm moving into.

Why would a company turn away a potential customer like this? I would be absolutely pissed if any sales personnel in my company turned away a potential customer who only needed a quick quote. Resources are minimal in what it takes to put together a number vs what they've already wasted in time emailing back and forth with absolutely useless banter just irritating the potential customer.

It's irritated me to the point that I'm about to post a scathing review of them on every public review platform I can find. before doing this, I wanted to check with /r/entrepreneur to see if there is any legitimate reason why they would be like this. I have been very patient in waiting for a response after escalating the issue to get past the first-line sales dude and even waited an additional 5 business days past their indicated response time. Literally the only reason I even want to possibly stay with them is that I already know they meet the regulatory oversight requirements. Any other hosting company will require more time in obtaining such proof of requirements. I'm about at that F it point though.

Un hidden PBN getting penalized, but how much? earn by blogging adsense income

Hi y'all,

I recently took over a website that has a bit of a SEO problem and I'd like to get everyone's take on how bad this situation is.

I have inherited a 150 website "PBN" that are all hosted on the same server. Same IP for all. All sites share google analytics and search console access. Each website has very low content and domain authority as well. I put PBN in quotes because these are several websites that were created for 1 main client, but all of the 150 websites belong to individual franchise owners.

Now for each site in the pbn we have dofollow links pointing back to the main website on the footers. So that is several dofollow footer links, about 2-10 links per site, from about 150 low DA crappy websites. A lot of them have keyword anchors.

I know this is pretty bad... what would you do? I can't get the money site to budge in the rankings and am pretty certain that this old PBN is a big anchor holding us down.

This is what I want to do... I want to no follow all the footer links and just leave 1 follow like on the bottom of the home page. Perhaps totally no follow the backlinks from the websites in this link wheel that are below DA 20. Does that sound good or should I do something else?

This is my first time posting here so feel free to tell me your honest thoughts no matter how dumb the question. Thanks!!!

When sending free samples is it best to send out completely free or to ask for postage? entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

I'm making a special skin balm with an active ingredient that eases arthritis and certain skin conditions. It's been very popular with friends and family and I'd like to take the next step.

So far, I've been sending 10ml sample pots out free of charge. I cover postage, which is around £1.50 and the balm and packaging is another £1.50 or so. Is it good practice to ask for a nominal fee for these samples, ie. £1 or p&p covered? The balm works on around 50% of people so I estimate I'd get return sales of about 20% possibly (total guess there, I've nothing to compare it to).

Would charging a small fee get potential customers used to the idea of paying for this, whereas no fee would mean they've invested nothing into it? Or would getting it for free mean they have no reason to NOT try, and therefore hopefully find it works and want to purchase some. Would getting it for free tap into the mentality of where they 'owe' me and are more likely to buy it from me?

If anyone has any advice I'd love to know. The psychology of all this is very interesting so hopefully you guys can help.

How to Hit #1 on Google: The 2017 Complete Guide earn by blogging adsense income

Google is everlastingly enhancing their hunt calculation and results pages. The design of Google's web crawler comes about pages (SERPs) have had a makeover or two since the begin of the 2017 – for instance, there are presently four AdWords comes about at the highest point of the indexed lists, looks coordinating the page title are at no time in the future encouraged and highlighted bits have been included, to name an only a couple of the progressions. So what do we need to anticipate in 2017? Google have effectively affirmed a mobile-first index of results and websites to be penalised for demonstrating those irritating adverts that fly up while you are sitting tight for a site to stack. Be that as it may, there is significantly more other than this that you should know to rank exceptionally in the Google SERPs. Here are seven things to consider on the off chance that you need to expand your natural activity in the New Year.

  1. Page Loading Speed

Individuals anticipate that your site will stack in a moment. With Google uncovering prior this year that a larger number of individuals are utilizing cell phones than desktop for their inquiry questions, page stack speed will turn into a significantly more urgent component with regards to Google positioning your site one year from now. The speed of your site ought to as of now be a need for enhancing the client experience of your clients or customers, on the grounds that many individuals don't have the tolerance to stay local for more than 3-4 seconds sitting tight for your site to load.

  1. Local

Local outcomes have been more unmistakable in Google list items this year and this will just increment going into 2017. This is particularly genuine considering that more individuals utilize the web crawler on their versatile than desktop nowadays and that about 33% of all portable pursuits incorporate an area. This implies it's more essential than any time in recent memory for your business to have Google My Business set up with the goal that you can show up for local inquiries.

  1. Featured Snippets

Google are showing more included scraps for inquiry questions nowadays and we anticipate that these will increment in 2017, with an expanded number of advertisers figuring out how to get their destinations highlighted. They show up over the natural outcomes with a connection to the source, so basically it's superior to having the main outcome for that pursuit question. The inquiries that raise highlighted bits are inquiries, so not really the watchwords you'd hope to change over. From our experience of getting highlighted scraps in Google's outcomes you'll require the question on your page, alongside an inside and out answer and as of now be positioning on page one in the natural outcomes for that inquiry. 4. Mobile first Index

Portable based looks have been expanding for various years now and they're not going to stagnate or drop off in 2017. Google will soon be making their list portable to begin with, implying that desktop will at no time in the future be their need. This implies it's more vital than any other time in recent memory to ensure that you have a versatile streamlined adaptation of your site in the event that you need to include conspicuously in Google. A site that the web index believes is versatile well disposed will have a responsive outline, rush to load, be clear to read, simple explore on cell phones and won't constrain the client to zoom to perceive any of the substance. Advertisers who have been ease back to bounce on the versatile fleeting trend ought to make it their need to venture up their insight in the New Year and apply it to their sites to ensure they aren't missing out on movement and potential clients to better portable enhanced contenders.

  1. Pop-ups Will Hurt Your Rankings

From January tenth 2017 Google will begin to punish locales with those irritating pop-ups, beginning with versatile sites. As of August this year, 85% of all pages in Google's versatile list items had the 'portable benevolent name', i.e. implying that the dominant part of results have content on the page that is decipherable on cell phones without the need to zoom in. However, a few pages have still possessed the capacity to show those fury instigating interstitials that piece the substance you need to read and aren't generally simple to clear and, especially on non-improved portable destinations, the local catch can be too little or even covered up by the non-responsive outline.

  1. Content To rank well and get activity from Google in 2017 you will require quality substance on your site. Google comes about first begun to concentrate on quality substance in 2011 with the Panda calculation refresh. This calculation began punishing low quality substance by downgrading or dropping these pages, at last driving advertisers and web proprietors to create quality substance to get to the highest point of Google. These days, for various inquiries, you'll see a large number of the outcomes on page one of the internet searcher's outcomes contain top to bottom data: Google positions webpage that give an abundance of data on the theme being referred to.

  2. Links

Backlinks remain an essential Google positioning element, yet throughout the years, Google has figured out how to weed out the terrible connections from the great. More connections will even now result in a higher score, however just in the event that they're from various assorted and definitive spaces. Connections will keep on remaining vital to sites in 2017. It was just recently that Andrey Lipattsev, a Search Quality Senior Strategist at Google, affirmed that connections and substance are Google's.

4 Golden Rules of SEO anyone with a website should know entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

#1 SEO is not an exact science There are no set rules. Google uses a variety of factors to determine a website's ranking. If someone tells you that they’ve cracked the code and can guarantee they’ll get your website ranked at top of search results, they probably don’t have a clue how SEO works.

#2 Quality over Quantity. It’s better to do less but do it well then to do more and do it poorly. Google is all about ORGANIC results. The more you try to manipulate Google into improving your website score, the less responsive it’ll become. Write quality content, build quality links, use quality images with the right alt-texts.

#3 Never pay someone to do SEO unless you know exactly what they’re doing. Unfortunately, SEO and marketing agencies are earning the reputation of used cars salesmen. This is because far too often, people in the industry don’t have adequate knowledge of how Google works, or they’re not up to date with the latest SEO practices. Before hiring someone to do your SEO, it’s critical that YOU have a solid understanding of the basic principles of SEO.

#4 Don’t piss off Google. This is easier said than done. If Google feels you are trying to manipulate your site’s ranking in a manner that’s not in accordance with their best practices, they’ll simply ban your site. If that happens, you might as well close up shop. That’s another reason not outsource SEO to someone who doesn’t really understand how it works.

So disappointed in people entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

I met a guy at my local Starbucks who mentioned he was an entrepreneur. I told him my next move may be as an entrepreneur because I'm in kind of a faltering industry and don't know how much longer the good times will last.

The thing is, I have a good head on my shoulders and a great network of connections in the tech world. My plan is one day to pick the best partner/s I can find and chase the rainbow.

This guy sounded really interested in my ideas, said maybe he could help me if I ever decided to make the leap. We exhanged cards and a few weeks later he emailed me and asked if we could meet at Starbucks. He said he had a business proposition for me.

Hmm, interesting. So I start Googling this guy and he's got a linkedin page with entreprenuerial-sounding kind of stuff and a Facebook with 2,000+ friends so I think maybe the guy is legit.

But I did notice something that was a red flag for me on his facebook page where it said he worked with Amway.

Multi-level marketing? Great, I think. I show up at Starbucks, we chat for a while then he gets down to brass tacks. He works for Network 21 (an educational service company that teaches people how to do Amway, for a fee of course). He says I can make $50k-$60k a year working with him.

I tell him I have "limited bandwidth" for taking anything extra on and this doesn't sound like it's for me. He checks his watch, says he's late for an appointment and is out the door.

I wasn't mad at this guy so much as disappointed. Do I look like your next mark, dude? This is the second time I've been solicited for these scams. Both times it was nice-seeming people looking to make a buck of unsuspecting rubes. No thanks.

How to handle volume discounted orders B2B predicated on an assumed volume entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Hi,

I am working on a deal where a company will resell my product to their customers. They think they can sell to X customers per year. At X level I want to provide Y discount. How do should I handle the pricing before we get to X?

Should I tier the discounts, so X/4 units sold gets Y/4 discount? If I do that, and they reach X, the average cost per unit to them is a lot higher now.

Or, should I charge more upfront, hold the funds and release them back once X level is reached?

Keyword Meta Tag earn by blogging adsense income

Hey all. I've heard that since around 2009, Google has disregarded the keyword meta tag when it comes to SEO. Despite this, I've had reports from people where I work that adding more keywords into the tag - without updating the content of a page, or making other amendments - has had positive effects on ranking and page visits. Could this actually be the case, or is there likely to be other factors effecting this?

[Day 4] Let's Start an Online Startup in 10 Days | Establishing Our Website entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Note: This is Day 4 of a 10 Day series on building N-ter, a place where you can manage your job applications online, from idea to launch. You can find the previous posts here:

Day 0 - Let's Build an Online Startup in 10 Days
Day 1 - Creating a Value Proposition for Our Idea
Day 2 - Refining the Business Model and Naming the Baby
Day 3 - Designing the Product Using a Method from the Lean Startup

Today it's all about getting our website up and running! We are covering the following topics:

  • Looking into the costs of establishing our digital product
  • Buying the domain, setting up the hosting and installing WordPress
  • Setting up a coming soon page on our new website

The Costs of Getting Our Website Online

After some of the previous posts I was asked to show a way on how you can start such an online product if you’re on a tight budget, for example if you’re a student. I think that there is nothing different you need to do, other than what we are doing here.

Let’s have a look on what we need to make N-ter happen. We need four main ingredients for it:

  1. A domain – 20 $ / year
  2. A hosting provider to host our website – 5-10 $ / month (depending on the host)
  3. A WordPress installation – FREE
  4. Basic coding skills – FREE

This means that, as long as you’re willing to put in the effort, you can start an online product for way under a 100 $ for the first year. I would argue that anyone who lives in a developed country and is over the age of 18 can come up with this kind of money within a reasonable timeframe.

A word of warning though: Depending on the country you’re living in, there might be laws or regulations that force you to establish a company if your intention is to make money with the website. I cannot discuss this issue here, as I am not a professional in that topic and I cannot cover this for all the countries you guys live in. Please talk to someone who knows what they are talking about, preferably a lawyer.

Pro tip: If the regulations in your country are too tight or establishing a company is expensive, there is quite a new alternative. The Estonian government is offering an e-residency, with the help of which you can establish a company in Estonia, without ever physically setting foot on Estonian soil. (And who really cares where your company is registered anyway?) I haven’t tried this myself yet, but I know people who did, and it seems to work fine. There seem to be more than 20.000 e-residents with 3000+ companies already and they are showing all statistics on a public dashboard. Again, I have not tried this out and therefore cannot vouch for this. Everything you do is at your own risk. Please consult a professional and make sure that you’re not overstepping any legal boundaries. But if anyone around here has experience with this e-residency, I would love to hear about it!

That being said, let’s get back to the topic and dive into each of the four components I mentioned at the start:

The Domain

When I came up with the idea for the name, I checked the domain availability straight away on GoDaddy. And what I saw is this. Whoops. Not exactly the kind of money we have available.

Here’s what to do: If your desired domain name is not available or too expensive, try other domain endings. Popular startup choices nowadays are alternative domains like ".co", ".io" or ".ly". Alternatively, try varying your name or add something to it. A possibility is something like “[NAME]app.com”. There are cases where even those adjustments do not work, for instance if you choose a very common or popular word. In that case you either play around with other words to add or reconsider your name choice.

My choice was simple: The domain n-ter.co was available for 16.99$. No second thoughts. Domain bought. As a rule of thumb, try not to spend more than 20$ on a domain name, it’s rarely worth it. Unless you really want it of course, but that’s your decision to make.

The Hosting

Unless you want configure and hook up a server to the internet yourself, you’ll need someone to host your website online. There is an abundance of global and local hosting providers. I’ve tried some of them before, but I stuck with SiteGround since I started using them. I haven’t had any notable issues with them and the websites I host with them have 100% uptime until now. Any questions or minor issues I had were all resolved by the first contact person on their customer service team, usually within a couple of minutes via live chat. Plus, they’re optimized for WordPress hosting. The costs? As of today, it’s 5 $ / month for their startup plan.

There are more good hosting providers out there, so choose one you like, sign up with them and you’re ready to go. If you’re intending to use WordPress, make sure your provider offers easy (usually “1-click”) WordPress installation. From here on, I will be assuming that we are using GoDaddy as the domain provider and SiteGround as the hosting provider to keep things simple. If you’re going with other providers, certain things might work differently. If the place where you bought the domain and your hosting provider are not the same (like in our case), what you need to do is to log in with your domain provider and point the name servers of your domain to your hosting provider. It usually doesn’t take longer than 5 minutes. Every decent hosting provider should have a tutorial on how to do this.

Before You Do Anything, Secure Your Website with SSL / HTTPS

One of the things I learned from previous projects is: Enable SSL encryption on your website as soon as possible. Once your website grows, shifting from http to https can be a difficult task. Why? For example, every single link and every single image on your website that are still in “http” format need to be replaced, before your website is actually secure. Trust me, do it right at the start. In the SiteGround cPanel, there is a “Let’s Encrypt” application. You can install the required certificate there for free and even enforce all incoming traffic to use the “https” protocol. Done in 2 minutes – and the data users transmit to the website is secure now. It took Stackoverflow four years to go through this transition.

Installing WordPress

So, we’ve bought the domain on GoDaddy, established our hosting account on SiteGround and linked the two. From now on we don’t really need to login to GoDaddy anymore, everything can be done via our SiteGround account. Once logged in, there should be a button taking you to the cPanel. What SiteGround does is they host our website files on a computer (the server) that they have somewhere in their data centers. cPanel is the configuration tool that lets you access and interact with this server. You can modify your website files, view and edit databases and do various other things. In the cPanel, you can find a WordPress Autoinstaller. Simply click on it and follow the instructions to install WordPress on your server. Once that’s done, open a new browser tab and open your website. You should now be able to see some generic text. Congratulations, your website is online!

Why Are We Using WordPress Anyway?

WordPress started out as a platform for bloggers, but as it is evolving, more and more functionalities become available. Their CEO Matt Mullenweg said that the vision of WordPress is to transform into an operating system for the web. And if we can believe their figures, they’re quite successful at it already. According to their numbers, they’re already powering 25% of websites on the internet. The main reason for using WordPress from my perspective is: It is a platform where many functionalities you need for a website are already prebuilt. Either by Automattic (the developer of WordPress) themselves, or by the numerous plugins that other people developed. So instead of coding functionalities like log-in or security features yourself, you can just install plugins that take care of those things for you. We’re going to dive into which plugins we are going to use in tomorrow’s post.

The downside of this is, that if you have a need for very customized features or designs, it can be quite hard implementing them to your exact specifications. That’s why for more advanced endeavours I would recommend custom development. But as we want to validate an idea quickly and cheaply, we’ll accept the downside of not getting some things 100% the way we want them to be. WordPress is very well documented, so if you want to learn more or need a first steps guide, you can find everything on on Getting Started with WordPress.

On "Basic Coding Skills"

It’s possible in almost all cases to create a basic website in WordPress without touching a single line of code. But I am anticipating that there will be a small amount of functionality for N-ter, where we will have to write a few lines of code to make it happen. I will try to keep this as minimal as possible. As I’ve mentioned a couple of times before, I am not a coder. But in the past, I got frustrated that I wasn’t able to build and test simple applications myself. And hiring a good programmer is very expensive. So, I decided to do something about it and learn how to code. (I must add I have experience with HTML, SQL and Python back from when I was in school. But that was a while ago and I was still quite a bit away from being able to build web applications.)

So here’s what I did: I signed up at Codeacademy.com and took the following free courses: HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP. Why exactly those four languages? In simplified terms:

  • HTML is the basis for every website and creates the building blocks that you see on it (text, boxes, buttons, images etc.)
  • CSS is responsible for the styling of the website (colours, backgrounds, spacing etc.)
  • Javascript enables basic website functionality such as animations or showing/hiding elements

All three are so-called “front-end” languages, meaning they are executed on your computer. You can even see the code of every website and play around with it (just right-click on any webpage and click on “view page source”).

  • With PHP, more sophisticated functionality can be programmed than with the three languages I mentioned before

PHP is a “back-end” language and is executed on the web server (that’s why you can’t see it in the page source). There are other popular (and arguably better) back-end programming languages like Python or Ruby. But the reason I chose PHP is that WordPress is entirely built on this language. So to get into WordPress code, you have to understand PHP.

What I mean when I am speaking of “basic coding skills”: Of course, you can do the courses on CodeAcademy or similar platforms. After that it’s highly likely that you will be able to understand and adjust existing code and also create functionality yourself. But you have to keep in mind that this will not make you a good and efficient programmer. Here is a critical view on why that is the case. We are only aiming to acquire the skills that are necessary to build our MVP and validate our idea. Once this is done and we are optimistic we can scale the idea and make money with it, the actual development work should be handed over to professionals who can write good code.

Setting up the Coming Soon Page & Collecting User Emails

How to Install Plugins in WordPress:

To set up the coming soon page that users will see while we are working on the website, we need to install our first plugin. In the SiteGround account area, click on “Go to Admin panel” next to your domain name. This will take you directly to the WordPress Admin panel, where you can build and edit your site. Click on “Plugins” -> “Add New” and search for the plugin you want to install.

For the coming soon page, I am using the plugin “EZP Coming Soon Page”. After installing and activating, there is a new item on the left-hand side that says “Coming Soon”. Go there, configure your page, set the status on “On” in the settings and it’s done! Just open your webpage in another browser than the one you’re currently using (This is important, because you are logged into the admin panel in your browser. So you won’t see the coming soon page.) and check the results! Here is our result on n-ter.co:

The cool thing about this plugin is that we can also collect e-mail addresses on our coming soon page. People who signed up appear under the “Subscribers” menu item. (Note: this mailing list is NOT the same as the one for this 10 day post series)

Setting up Website Analytics

One last thing to do for today is to enable Google Analytics on our website to see how many people are visiting.

  • Go to analytics.google.com and create an account.
  • Follow the instructions to set up your account.
  • Insert the tracking-script you receive from Google in the “Analytics code” field in the Coming-Soon-plugin settings.
  • Visitor data should start showing up in your Google Analytics account soon.

Day 4 Summary

If you are following along, today do the following:

  • Choose and purchase a domain for your idea
  • Purchase hosting on SiteGround or a hosting provider of your choice and point the nameservers of your domain to it
  • Secure your website by installing and enabling an encryption certificate
  • Install WordPress
  • Set up a Coming Soon page for your website
  • Create and link a Google Analytics account

That’s it for Day 4! Tomorrow we will:

  • Select and configure a theme for our WordPress appearance
  • Install all required WordPress Plugins
  • Create the first webpages and page elements

Meanwhile, feel free to sign up for the email-newsletter and I’ll let you know when the new posts go online!

One last off-topic thing I wanted to share with you guys. While the majority of reactions was overwhelmingly positive, after yesterday’s day 3 post a few people said that there’s no way I’m writing all this stuff and building everything at the same time. Fair enough, I would probably doubt it myself if I saw someone else do such posts on Reddit. Usually I try not to engage in conversations like these as they lead nowhere. But as I’m expecting more of such comments in the next couple of days, I’m going to leave the following:

  • Here’s the creation time of the Trello board where I tracked yesterday’s user stories
  • Here’s the creation time of the Day 3 Word document
  • Here’s what the website looks like right now (behind the coming soon page)

(Times are GMT+10)

  • One more thing: If you read the day 2 post, you should realize that major parts of the content are based on discussions that followed the day 1 post. So unless I have psychic abilities (which frankly would be quite cool 馃槉), there’s no way I could have pre-written that.

Why I was able to write so much is because I was coming up with the concepts and writing them down at the same time. Now that I’m starting to build stuff the posts will probably become shorter, because I’ll actually have to build AND document. That’s all I have to say about this, from now on full focus is on progress.

A big thank you to the overwhelming majority of you guys for the constructive feedback so far!
