Hi there, my name is Jin, I've been planning a tea business for a bit if time and am considering selling tea at a market in southern California. My thoughts were to start off importing gourmet tea from Asia, then move to create my own tea blends.
Do you this would be a logical way to start a tea business and then based on success to consider opening up a storefront or tea truck? I'm thinking this route as it will eliminate the cost of a storefront and would be a good use of free time before or after my job.
What would I need to be able to import and sell other brands, would I be able to redesign the outer packaging as long as I mark the original company? I've read that I will probably need to form a business first and check with the FDA when it comes to importing or something!

I've fought with myself back and forth over different ideas about how I can try to make money and learn while doing it (just to highlight a few I've had some like dropshipping, ecomm in general, forex trading, a computer repair store, social media marketting, seo, starting a blog) I know some of those don't fall under entrepreneurship and that is because entrepreneurship isn't the only option I've been looking at so far though, to me, it's the most interesting subject.
I dabble in programming and computer science and plan on going to college for computer science and taking a few classes in entrepreneurship because I plan on going the startup self-employed route eventually. ( I choose CompSci because I loved computers and I love solving issues, programming as well fascinates me. And mostly because I enjoy the untaken path, and while CompSci is a very famous popular major it's a less taken route for entrepreneurs in my eyes anyways so I want to give it a try.)
And I believe, as do many others, that without-a-doubt the best way to learn the ins and outs of entrepreneurship is trying and just getting out there.
So I have a bit of capital I just lack a proper guidance in the best direction I should take. Sure I do want to make money out of this (who doesnt want to make money) but in the end I want an opportunity to learn. (though there's a difference between learning through failure and throwing your money down a drain and I'm making sure to draw a fine line there)
Though it may not be a good practice, I'm going to give what I believe is my best idea thus far: I wanted to start a website where college kids can sell and trade textbooks both through shipping and through a filter system where you can only see the listing from people at your college/university and you can schedule a meetup spot at a safe place on that college campus. So it'd be both easier and cheaper to buy and sell your used college textbooks. I don't really know a good starting point for this and it seems a lot to tackle by myself which has turned me away but this seems like something I could do for fairly cheap. (maybe even buy my sister who is in college textbooks off of her and put them up there as the first listings lol)

We had been in business for close to 20 years and we decided to spilt up the business. For reasons beyond me, he gave up the company phone number to me without a fight. Two days in to being on my own and I am actually worried because of the volume of calls I am getting is overwhelming. 51 calls yesterday and 35 calls today. I am already booked up two weeks out. Good problem to have, I know, but scary also
The things we've been working most on are clarity (is it clear what we are?) and layout (does the order of the sections make sense?) but would love to hear your thoughts on how to improve. We get quite a bit of visits but lack in sign-ups from some social media platforms.

This past July, I posted about 3 unique things I did to “Surprise and Delight” my way to 15,000 customers.
Since then, I’ve been obsessively building a new business—a Chrome extension for Amazon sellers. This Chrome extension allowed Amazon sellers to directly contact any customer who left a review (previously not possible).
I also recently moved to Los Angeles on a $15K personal salary and need to make more money within 1-2 months to maintain my current lifestyle.
Only 3 weeks after launching, I was seeing 1-3 new signups per day (at a price of $34) with very little marketing! This, combined with positive feedback from customers, was sooo exciting.
In an unexpected twist, last Friday night Amazon changed a key part of their HTML (which my Chrome extension relied on) and it stopped working entirely.
While this could have been gut-wrenching, I’m proud of how I reacted. Almost instantly, I knew I couldn’t afford to let it negatively affect my energy since I still need to make more money to afford LA.
My favorite podcast is “You Made it Weird” with Pete Holmes and I remember him saying something like this a while back:

I’ve since adapted the Chrome extension to work about 25% of the time (when an Amazon reviewer uses their real name).
I can’t justify charging money for this, so I decided to release this update for free. It could still be a good way to collect emails for my next Chrome extension, which I’ve already started building.
Anyway, I surprised myself a bit with how motivated I’ve been over the past few days, and I thought sharing this perspective might be useful for anyone else going through stressful times in their own business.
Just a little back story about me, I’m a recent graduate at a university nearby and just entered the corporate world earlier this year. Always kind of thought the corporate world would be this exciting career path... I was wrong! I’ve always wanted to be start my own business, in regards to providing a service more so than a product. Hey! About a week ago I created a affordable graphic design business based on logo and other branding for everything from Esports to business. So far we have made Five sales and created a small amount of profit that we are investing back into the site. I created this business as i feel the current framework for graphic design (especially lower cost) is full of unprofessionalism, scams and stolen work. We aim to provide a safe place to buy professional and custom made logos. However we have found it difficult to compete with solo designers and those with premade work where you simply replace the text. we currently are advertising through google adwords and twitter RT accounts (We arent very happy with using them but we have found it difficult to find any audience without them currently) We could really use some advice! Specifically on how to market our services, we would also love to hear your thought on our prices, as we arent sure if there is really a large enough market for even our current prices. Turns out, yes you can, and it took me about three minutes to implement with a simple google search.
Really, really digging MailChimp so far. Their Shopify integration was pretty damn seamless.

II got the unlucky job of figuring out what SEO is. It's like it's a giant mystery what SEO is, Nobody can give a distinct answer. I work as a programmer, i can figure out php, mysql, html, all of the programing mumbo jumbo but SEO is just a mystery to everybody except all the people who sell the service. A friend of mine has a youtube channel where he uploads weekly, League of Legends videos, about 10-15 min. His videos get 50k views in the first few days, then couple hundred daily. We're in a small country, so ads don't pay much, about $20 for 60k views.

My personal project is a basic income giveaway (of $500/mo for two years) as a way to launch a new money blog focused on helping Americans become financially healthy. For the past year, I've been spending every free moment working on developing my business, Corsa Lusso. I'm a major car nut, and I throughly enjoy a good cup of coffee. I also spend a lot of my weekends at various cars & coffee meets throughout the country. So I decided to combine these passions into a business and founded a car themed coffee company.
We officially launched in August and things have been going great so far. We're getting some traction with the automotive community, and yesterday was one of the most exciting events so far. I walked into Barnes & Noble and picked up every copy of European Car & Super Street Magazines, because we are one of their featured products of the month!

Ultimately I want the product page to rank, so I would normally add content and point internal links to that page, but If I do that could I be cannibalizing the keyword against currently the ranking blog page?

So I am in a fairly weird position right now with my business and could use some advice.
I developed a software that is really useful for people in my niche. There are around 4-5 competitors that offer the same kind of software but with waay more features. They are also about 2-5x more expensive than mine. My software is more suited for beginners and easier to use in comparison.
First, I was using the freemium model. I got one single customer out of over 9000 people that visited my website. Then I changed to premium and haven't got a single customer since then. I don't know if this is because I lack features and my software is so basic or if I am just bad at selling. I feel like it is the first reason though...
Therefore, I am really tempted to try out something completely new. My idea is to offer the software as freeware, as I could advertise on forums and websites for free this way. I could also get in contact with some youtubers and try to build a community around this whole thing. It certainly would be a small disruption in the market.
I feel like this would be a great way to reach out to a ton of people as I frequently see posts on forums asking for a free version of this type of software.
Before downloading though, I'd collect email addresses and have an awesome autoresponder email campaign, that both provides value to the subscriber and also makes me some money through affiliates.
My niche is really good for affiliates as it has a big market for things like ebooks, software, providers etc. As most of the people using my software would be beginners, I could market books, other software and certain offers to them.
TL;DR:
Offer my software for free to gain a lot of traction and to improve it with the help of the community
Collect email addresses before downloading
Create a really nice email campaign that provides value to the subscribers and me
What do you guys think? Should I try that idea or should I rather stick to improving my software and trying to sell it? I've been thinking about this a lot. There isn't much that makes a town, but I just can't figure out what it is that makes a town grow.
So lets pretend there's a grocery store, a post office, a swimming pool, middle/highschool, a town hall, museum, library, utility services, hotel, bar, laundromat, a frosty, a gas station, and a gym. Literally one of everything that makes a town a "town", or at the very least an area livable.
At what point is the town considered growing? Is it because someone starts a business and hires people? Or is it because there's economic growth within the town in general that creates demand for something?
Suppose a town IS growing. After looking at the currently available services, what would be the next logical business to pop up? At what point do things like MORE restaurants or niche retail businesses start to appear?
It's like a chicken/egg puzzle that never ends. Is it a "build it and they will come" thing, or is it "demand and then supply" thing?

I'm getting ready to launch my product and want to offer an affiliate program. Is there a Wordpress or Joomla plugin that would generate that kind of connection? 24 hours to D-Day. Jack Bauer has nothing on me. I am staring down the barrel of 6 months of work with only 24 hours left to pull off something great with no margin for error. I'm not going to write this post with quotes about overcoming fear or stepping into your destiny, etc. Rather, this is the post that I will state all the emotions and fears that are overwhelming me in this moment.
I am scared. There, I said it. I know its not a clever thing to say in this day and age and guys like Gary V. will say you have to "fake it" or represent your best self or something else like that, but that is honestly not me. The name Divergent Entrepreneur was not just clever marketing, but rather who I am in everything that I do. I am different and although my fear may be the same as every other entrepreneur who has gone before me, how I deal with it will be different. So, to that end, here are the fears and toughts that are running through my head 24 hours from launch:
1) What if what I made is not good at all... As someone who prides himself on creating high quality deliverables in his first business, this is a tough pill for me to swallow. I am a decent writer. I have done video and web production before, but that was over 8 years ago which is a lifetime in the digital age. My content quality will not be as good as it should be, but I am going to force myself to be ok with that because the message is clear.
2) What if I am not Expert Enough for this? I don't have everything figured out. I know more now than I did 5 years ago, but I don't know EVERYTHING. If people ask me questions that I don't know, I am going to say "I don't know, but lets figure it out together." Maybe thats good enough and maybe not. We will find out.
3) What if it just doesn't work? This launch depends on others. It depends on people looking at and receiving what I have offered and then being willing to build a community around those ideas. It depends on the amount of value that I can create and what others perceive as worth their time, effort and money. That's easier said than done and those of you who have been in similar positions can understand the dilemma that puts someone in who is kind of a control freak.
But, here's the rub or silver bullet if you will to this whole thing. I have been here before. 5 years ago, I made my first phone call to a customer and said the words "I have started my own AV & Lighting company..." It was equally scary, hard and nerve-racking, but here I am much later with success and blessings beyond more than I can ever deserve. So, I do not have certainty about the future, but I am certain about my past and where it has brought me.

I own an ecommerce shop that is doing good business with a great, custom made product. I'm a one-man operation with limited time, and I need help on the marketing side. It's still a very young business.
I've spent as much as $700 or so in a day in FB ads, though more typically it's closer to $200. My ROI is all over the place as I'm doing a lot of testing.
My biggest sales day is 23 sales at about $45 per average sale. Seeing that I can do that on my own at this very early stage (while working a full time job in a completely separate industry), I feel that this is a 7 figure business in the making.
I need help though. There are so many options out there for Facebook Ad agencies, I'm a bit overwhelmed.

Retail eCommerce website. Business is based in UK but has a US site. Recently moved from HTTP to HTTPS (September). Move went fine, but then sharp drop in keyword rankings occurred 10/29 - 10/30. Still decreasing as of 10/31 but far less sharply. Tracking with SEMrush.
Anyone else experience something similar? I know weather is inclement but that seems to be the new norm these days.

Currently planning a transition to an updated eCommerce store (switching from Big Commerce to X Cart). We have several thousand products on the old site and I'm trying to figure out how many I should be setting up 301 redirects for... My thought was to redirect the top 100-200 in terms of organic traffic/impressions, based on Analytics and Search Console data. Anyone disagree with this strategy?
Basically, I'm trying to figure out whether the time invested in setting up a redirect outweighs its value at a certain point, and what that threshold is... Would love insight if others have experience with this type of situation.

So I am considering starting a dog walking business in a city/state I currently don't reside in. I am from the suburbs and feel there would be more opportunity in a more densely populated city. My plan is to be in charge of all of the operations (scheduling, marketing, etc.) and outsource the actual work to people located in the city. I am a late 20's male currently working a 9-5 job in continuous improvement (operational performance) for a mid sized government company. My job is quite good, and with a 100k USD (130k AUD) salary and good work life balance I am not complaining - but I am unfulfilled.
I have the capital (and I'm cultivating the discipline) to do something more challenging - It has been my dream to do something that allows me to live a location independent lifestyle and work on something challenging. Something that I will really feel good about when it succeeds. I know the first (or the 10th) attempt might end in failure, I know that I might have to do 50 or 60 hour weeks for the first few years and really step out of my comfort zone and develop new skills. In fact I'm really hoping that all the above happens, because I am stagnating.
My problem? I have absolutely no idea what to do.
Apart from pivoting into business consulting and building a client base, which fills me with the same sense of boredom as my current job, I have not managed to connect with anything. I feel like somewhere out there is something or someone who will be the catalyst that makes me think...yeh! I'm going to try that!
The onus is on me to seek it out, it wont come to me, but I wanted to ask reddit: How/where did you find the thing that sparked you? Did it come from an unexpected direction? How did you first learn of something that you never knew existed.

I run a video production company, and our Facebook page has been stuck around 430 followers for some time now. We post a variety of content pretty regularly (at least once a week): client work, videos, blog posts, photos of the team, etc.
Recently, I boosted a post to get more engagements. Over 120 people have liked the post thus far. I invited every person who liked the post to also like our page, but none have done so.
It kind of feels like the only way to grow your Facebook audience is to pay Facebook for more followers. What am I doing wrong?

I’ve always had a penchant for optimizing systems/processes. Inefficiency/waste makes me cringe and I love finding ways to minimize that waste or tweak things to realize some kind of measurable benefit.
Typically my outlet for this is my own home/habits/finances. Lately, though, I’ve found I’m able to put it to use at my job, identifying opportunities for improvement/cost savings/simplification. A few examples:
We recently completed some renovations and needed to furnish the new space. The owners had picked out some basic black sofas/chairs. I found comparable furniture for about 1/2 the price.
After going far too long with (and spending far too much on) mediocre Keurig coffee at our office, I researched and proposed a new setup that will save us ~$2,000/year (and likely boost morale :) )
The current system for connecting to a shared standing workstation employs 2 separate docking stations to accommodate Mac & PC—and still isn’t compatible with everyone’s machine. I’ve found a single-dock solution that will and allow everyone to easily connect.
A team member in another department had been using a Word doc as a template for a somewhat standardized content task, which resulted in a lot of manual work (char. counts, etc.) I created a replacement template in Excel to automatically calculate this stuff and streamline this task.
I really enjoy this work/solving these problems, and have a feeling it could be value in some form as a service. Generally, my value proposition is that, as a small business owner, while you’re grinding every day and also trying to think big picture, inefficiencies can creep in, whether on the periphery or hidden in plain site. And all these little things can add up to a big dent in your bottom line.
Do you think this kind of cost-saving/efficiency consulting is something small business owners would value? Be brutal.

Right, so basically I think I'm starting to see signs of Apple beginning to decline. I actually made a vlog post about all this, which I've linked below, but if you don't have the time to watch that, I'll summarise what I say in it:
They're focussing on short term profits/greed without thinking about the customer as much anymore. For example, their decision to get rid of the headphone jack, which nobody liked was disguised as an attempt to innovate and give the customer a better experience, but in reality it was a money grab to sell us all these expensive wireless earphones. Also, with the announcement of the new iPhone X being $999- Again, this is just an attempt to rip people off for short term profits without thinking about the future.
I think they're riding on the wave of customer loyalty that Steve Jobs brought, but eventually people will forget about him. His death was only about 6 years ago, so he's still part of the brand, but give it another 6 years, I don't think people will really associate him with the brand as much and Apple will be seen as a different company.
I think they're still trying to be seen as this innovative company, but lots of the "innovations" they're doing are taking away from the functionality of the product. For example, again with the iPhone 7 headphone jack thing, taking away USB port in their MacBooks to seem like they're ahead of the times- When in reality lots of people still use USB, so it's less convenient for everybody. They're also insisting on making everything as thin as possible, when in reality most people would give up 0.3cm if it made the battery on their iPhone last longer. Then with this whole forcing people to use Face ID instead of keeping the fingerprint scanner aswell as an option for when the Face ID is less convenient is making the product worse. Why not just have both and have the fingerprint on the side or at the back?
I just feel that if they continue to go down this route, eventually people will feel ripped off and switch over to Android.

For the same keyword, moz explorer gives you 10 searches but keyword planner is 1k-10k. The difference is crazy. Do you guys happen to know why is that? It has to be something that is completely off with one of them.

Recently I was curious how the mobile app business looks like from the other side - specifically, how can you earn money being an app owner?

So I wanted to raise a discussion after a very fruitful one that we had some while ago about Estonia and software development in some other eastern european countries.
Are there any app owners here? Could you share with us your app monetization strategy, your experiences connected with raising money on mobile apps (failures, successes, anegdotes - anything!) or any other insights important for the topic?
I'm curious because we are hearing all the time, that the app market is worth billions of dollars. Yes sure, but isn't the most of that money coming to the big players like Google, Facebook etc? So maybe the whole mobile apps bubble is just a fad? Or maybe they are true gold mines?

This is all a burden on our taxes and our resources. No money to deal with all of the natural disasters.
We’d be better off to just invest upfront in some societal upgrades that will help us adapt to the present and future.
I think that if I can capture this message succinctly, others might agree. But the key is it can’t be as alarmist as I am in this post. It must be positive.
Something about each person playing a role in their own unique way. About joining forces and creating.
I want to start a membership-based organization with an app that allows in-app purchases.
And we need a website.
