[STRATEGY DILEMMA]Long-tail keyword Hunting VS 'Less is more' (Basically less but richer pieces of content) earn by blogging adsense income

Well, I'm confused...

Been diving more into SEO lately and studying some references in the industry and got into a dilemma that would love to get some insight in...

Some say I should have less but better pieces of content, where I can split some time to invest in marketing in and building links to it... Some say I should hunt long-tail keywords which are easier to rank for... But make sense to me, but they don't play very well together (?).

It's obvious that long-tail keywords even if we rank high won't ever bring to much traffic, which make me think that we should hunt a A LOT of long-tail keywords to build reasonable traffic... Which will dissolve my focus...

So I'm a bit confused here and would love your thoughts or experience!

I wonder if it is possible to rank for long-tail keywords with my corner-stone content? Like with keyword rich sub-headings or any other trick?

Thanks in advance!
