If I am trying to rank nationally but also locally. Does local SEO hurt national rankings? earn by blogging adsense income

For example. My business can serve anyone in the United States, but we also have an office in Los Angeles that they can come into. If I do optimization for local like Google My Business, Yelp, etc. Does that make search engines think that we only serve locally hence hurting national queries?
