We're launching a new product. What's the safest approach to maintain existing SEO? earn by blogging adsense income

For almost 14 years the company I work for have created 1 product which we use product.com (hosted on wordpress.org) to promote and generate leads. We are a few months away from launching a brand new product. The new product will target the same industry but is essentially a swanky, newer, cooler version of our founding product. The important thing to note is that the new product will be self serve, whereas our original product is, and will remain an Enterprise level product.

Our product.com website has excellent SEO, and completely overhauling the copy and meta data on that website frankly gives me heart palpitations! So, that brings me to my current thought process - I'm thinking we'd be better off SEO wise by setting up a multisite in our Wordpress instance and creating a subdomain so anything relating to our new product will live at newproduct.product.com.

So, r/SEO...As you might be able to tell, I'm feeling a little nervous about this whole thing. I'm hoping some of you can d be a solid by answering the below:

Do you think this sounds like the best plan of attack? If no, what would you do?

How much is the subdomain approach likely to affect my SEO on product.com?

Is there any risk involved in backlinking between the subdomain and product.com?

Any other feedback would be much appreciated!
