got to first page for a day and then dropped to second earn by blogging adsense income

hey, ive been working lazily on a a site that im trying to rank, but have a quick question, i got on to the first page the other day at pos 7 from pos. 20 after getting a couple of links from bloggers a few weeks ago,

The next day i was down to pos. 16 and then today pos. 17 is this anything to worry about or it is just dancing? im mainly asking as ive heard that google will put a site on page one and then see if it should be there and if not then drop it down? myth?

as for now the plan is just to leave it another couple of weeks before trying to get a couple more links, the competition isnt too high so links should have a decent effect on the rankings
