Help with SEO (beginner) earn by blogging adsense income

Hi all,

Looking for some advice.

I'm creating my first website/blog but not really sure the best way to get organic traffic through SEO.

I've been reading up on backlink building and SEO-friendly blog posts but it seems every man and his dog is talking about this so I'm not really sure which advice is legitimate. Is it true Google eliminated metatags from contributing to rankings?

Can someone with experience in successfully growing organic traffic please shed some light on how best to do it?

Not expecting the holy grail, just want to see some progress/consistent growth.
