Is SEO a good idea for e-commerce? earn by blogging adsense income

I'm starting an e-commerce website and was wondering if SEO is still relevant in 2018 when it comes to selling stuff online.

I'm no big fan of Facebook Ads. I'd love to work on SEO instead (even if it requires time). Is it worth it? A good idea?
