Is Server-Side Rendering still necessary for SEO purpose? earn by blogging adsense income

I know that this may be a bit more of a programming question, but I'm reading different point of views regarding this; some says that basically google now interprets and render javascript so the crawler can read the content of the page, some says it does not.

Is it still worth it? Apart from a UX and performance point of view, is it still necessary to render pages on server side?
