301 redirect question(s) earn by blogging adsense income

I'm trying to get my blog off the ground, I'm also a total N00B when it comes to SEO.

I'm trying a tactic of finding sites that are either A - recently deleted or dropped that have good backlinks or B - were linked to incorrectly by powerful sites (because they were mispelled).

I then 301-redirect them to my site.

This hasn't really cost me very much money, but I'm also not seeing any lift.

It's been about 2 weeks since I did the first one and I don't see anything in Ahrefs.

Am I barking up the wrong tree here? Is this tactic no longer userful?
