Google crawled a bunch of stand in articles for my designer, those keywords (undesirable) are ranking higher than our desired keywords. What to do? earn by blogging adsense income

I recently started a new company in another state. When my designer was creating the new website, he used the old websites (for the company in a different state) content as stand in. He also dropped in all of our blogs, which had the same URL's just on the domain, a lot of these URLS were keyword heavy.

Our initial snapshot by Google was while all of this incorrect and duplicate content was on it, I'm not sure how the URL was found, but it was.

All of these blogs and content were removed, but I noticed today they are still showing up in webmaster tools, and these keywords are ranking better than our desired keywords.

Other than using the Remove URL tool in Webmaster tools and using a 410 Error for those pages, what can be done here to remedy this?
