Why many companies only wholesale to retailers and not to online businesses? entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

I am interested in starting an online store in a niche market. I have done some research and it seems that distributors only wholesale to retailers. Is there a reason why they distributors in some niches don't wholesale to online stores?
