Dupe pages with & without trailing slash in URL. 301 redirect vs canonical, which is better? earn by blogging adsense income

Example:

www.examplesite.com/hello/new

and

www.examplesite.com/hello/new/

Both exist, menu items link to /new BUT /new canonicals to the trailing slash version so that's what's indexing in Google.

Would it be best to just leave as is since it's not really actively hurting, or is it worth it to 301 /new to /new/ and change all the menu URLs?
