Revamping client's website and changing domain name. How to make the transfer with little damage as possible? earn by blogging adsense income

I'm currently redesigning and speeding up a client's website, filled with video and text tutorial. A lot of the content will remain the same.

We will be changing the domain name as well.

So that Google does not index the entire website as duplicate content, I'm considering the following strategies. Which one is best?

1. Change domain name on current version of the site and re-index all the pages on Google webmaster. After a week, upload the new version of the site. Keep all hyperlinks the same, as well as general structure of sitemap.

2. Upload new version of site and keep old domain name for a week. After 1 week, change the domain name and re-index all links on Google webmaster.
