Is it bad to have the blog content of my site on a different URL than the main site? earn by blogging adsense income

I'm redesigning my site www.xyz.com and adding in a blog. For the blog portion of the site my plan was to use a blogspot url (xyz.blogspot.com). What implications will this have on SEO?
