I'm a small to medium sized business and my sales manager is interested in signing up with Marketo or Salesforce for better marketing management tools and analytics. However, I'm skeptical of how ready we are for something like this. We are very much in our infancy when it comes to online / social media marketing. For instance we only just learned about Google Tags and didn't know about Schema's. We just learned about wordpress and are struggling with using an old version of Magento for our blog posts etc.
So to me it seems like we should focus on learning some more of the basics first before spending big bucks (Marketo is $30k+ a year). So I'm looking for some advice, and I apologize if this isn't really the right sub for this.
We are basically looking to expand our online presence, improve our rankings, and maybe most importantly track our customer interaction for leads. What would be some key things we should be doing and understanding well before we spend our money on something like Marketo or Salesforce?
