Duplicate content. But on the same url? earn by blogging adsense income

I know that Google doesn't like duplicate content on two websites. But does it matter when it's the same url?

For example I'm redesigning my website to a more modern look, but with more or less the same content. Does it matter to my ranking on Google? And I probably won't get flagged for duplicate content either since its the same URL, right?
