Maintaining Security of Code while Subcontracting Programmers. entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

I am building an online application and am considering hiring contractors via sites like UpWork and E-Lance. Are there any controls I can put in place to ensure they don't walk away with the whole codebase? Obviously NDA's only have limited effectiveness when workers could be from any jurisdiction.

I COULD create standalone mini-projects for them to work on in isolation but this would take far more time to set up than it saved in the long run.

Is there a standard methodology for this situation?
