In this growing world of E-Commerce how can you keep your focus on your core business without having to worry about your products reaching your customers.

Choose the right 3PL right?

I am going to list a few things each 3PL needs to help you stay focused on growing your business.

1. Proven Track record. Meaning you cannot hire out of the box brokers. Businesses that are trying to get their foot in the door you want the Mr Miyagi of transportation and logistics and can prove it!

2.24/7 and weekend hours. When your customer is calling you on a Saturday night for an update you want to be able to give them one. Log on to your 3pls website and give them an answer! Some of these brokers have 24/7 dispatch and some don’t! So make sure you know this information before making a decision.

1. Cellular tracking on every load Macro point or Four Kites are a must especially on critical shipments that are time pressing. This means that a service is pinging the drivers cell phone every 15 minutes to get a location of the truck.

2. Pricing /Service Sweet-spot! Everyone knows that cheap freight stays behind so make sure you are not being cheap with your transportation spend. Does your logistics provider hit the sweet spot that provides the service you need with the pricing that you want? Is it fair pricing ? Do your homework and maybe hire someone from a 3PL to ensure optimization from your provider.

3. Does your service come with bells and whistles?

Does the broker come and visit your facilities? A good provider will send an engineer to your loading facilities to make sure your warehouse is loading in the most efficient way. Do they maintain a relationship that makes your feel comfortable? Are they transparent with the information they provide you? Some brokers can withhold information until a problem is at the point of no return.
