Hello all, sorry if this doesn't qualify for being a post. I was going to ask this question in the noob thread, but I didn't see many results to this question in google or in this subbreddit, so I figure it would be a good question to ask for future searchers.
What are your opinions on choosing a descriptive business name vs a brandable one?
I'm specifically having an issue choosing a name for my online bike shop. One one end of the spectrum, I have KovaShore.com which doesn't really mean anything and is just a blend of two words lightly related to me and my business.
On the other end of the spectrum, I have mtbgear.ca. Which is quiet specifically what my business is going to be initially.
Then inbetween the two is EvokeCycles.com and CrankandChain.com. Brandable but still has keywords that relate to the industry.
I held a poll requesting mountain bikers to pick their favorite name, and the two extremes (kovashore and mtbgear) shared less than 15 percent of the votes. To be fair, I think people assumed I was opening a brick and mortar store.
So I like KovaShore. It's brandable, it's related to me and my industry, but it's probably going to take time and money to develop.
CrankandChain is good, but I feel like that would be more for a physical bike shop than an online store. Or an online store that sold parts (which I won't be doing).
EvokeCycles is pretty great too, but there's a Chinese company that makes electric motor cycles called Evoke Motorcycles. So that could be an issue.
Then finally MTBGear.ca. Super relevant to what I'm selling, but limited demographically and limits me on the categories of supplies I sell.
Anyways, what's you input on brandable vs descriptive names? And if you have some input on my name specifically, that would be great also! Thanks!
