Page ranking not for the keywords that are in the page earn by blogging adsense income

We have a ecommerce site ( 4 informative pages and lots of products) each of the products has a different long-tail keyword that I'd like that specific product rank for, but at the moment, parent page, while not containing any of product keywords, is ranking for almost all the long tails the product pages have. Can someone help me understand how does it work?
