Is Stripe becoming more friendly towards porn websites? Per their Terms & Conditions Stripe prohibits any and all businesses/services in the adult & pornography space. However it seems like they're making a few exceptions.Stripe is processing payments(well over $30M) for websites/apps fronting as social media networks, but in reality are pornographic social networks, where amateurs and professional porn stars sell subscription access to their content: OnlyFans.com, ConnectPal.com, Patreon.com & Peeks App. Here are example pages on Onlyfans.com. (NSFW)
If you hashtag search 'onlyfans' these are the results(NSFW):
- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/onlyfans/?hl=en (NSFW)
- Twitter: https://twitter.com/hashtag/onlyfans?lang=en(NSFW)
How I know Onlyfans.com processes these transactions via Stripe's Checkout and Connect APIs.
- OnlyFans.com Payments URL and view source, you clearly see Stripe's API being invoked. https://onlyfans.com/my/payments
- https://imgur.com/a/P3p2I9K (Stripes API being Invoked)
- https://imgur.com/a/tfzXQvj (Onlyfans actually state in their Terms and Conditions that they use Stripe as their payments and payout processor)
- https://imgur.com/a/MLX46c3 ( I subscribed to a couple of the Onlyfans adult "Creators" for Research :) , and this is what I saw on my Banking Statement w/ Merchant Info)
OnlyFans.com claims to have paid out over $30M to their creators, if that is the case, with a 20% platform fee. that means Stripe must have processed at least $37.5M on behalf of Onlyfans.Again straight from Stripes Terms & Conditions page around Prohibited Businesses:
Adult content and services Pornography and other obscene materials (including literature, imagery and other media); sites offering any sexually-related services such as prostitution, escorts, pay-per view, adult live chat features
If Stripe is going to prohibit businesses in the gambling space, and high risk businesses, then they should consistently monitor and underwrite their supported businesses.
