I run a distribution company in Canada. We sell brands to professionals who use our products for their professional practices as well as resell retail products. One of the major struggles we are facing right now is misinformation and inconsistency in education.
I would like to start a website which would provide free content (tutorials, how to’s, tools, etc.) that would be aimed at those professionals. However, the content would be accessible to everyone and hopefully could educate the consumers as well. Content would be offered via articles, podcasts, and e-books.
The idea is if I can provide quality and interesting content for every professional in the industry, our expertise could shine through and give us even more credibility and exposure. We won’t be pushing our brands directly or disguise content to make them purchase our products.
I don’t plan to monetize the content, however, if we can gain an engaged audience, we could sell courses on different topics or areas of expertise.
Any suggestions on how to start such a platform? Should I start dripping content slowly, or wait and build up a lot of it and upload it all at once? Any tips on how to structure content in an efficient way and on how to build an audience?
Also, I’m thinking of setting apart from my company by branding it and making it a separate company but would be transparent about the connection (XYZ Co. an initiative of ABC Co.). The company would be branded as a content provider and not a product distributor. That way, a customer who uses a competitor’s products might be less inclined to dismiss our content just because of the name. Would you recommend going that route?
