So over the years I've been involved with some hobbies that I'm hoping to turn into business since I've been gaining some traction. I love the idea of a branded house, but I'm having concerns and a little confused.
Let's say my name name is XYZ and I want to start a security consulting firm called XYZ Security and also a photography company called XYZ Photography. I've LLC'd XYZ, LLC and assuming I'll need to file for two DBAs for Security and Photography. (I guess that's another post.)
I have a logo created for XYZ, XYZ Photography, and XYZ Security. Logo is exact same except the words Security under one and Photography under the other.
When it comes to the trademarking process, I can totally understand how it would work for XYZ Photography and XYZ Security. However, I'm not exactly sure how I can trademark XYZ because according to LegalZoom and research, I need to have a description for the trademark. In my case though it's really just a name, while it's children companies are the ones that'll be providing the services. My company name is unique and a word/name that doesn't exist anywhere so it's actually not generic.
I'm looking for advice on how I should approach this. LegalZoom kind of talked me into trademarking XYZ as one of the children companies but that doesn't quite make sense to me.
Should I brainstorm a possible business for XYZ so that I can trademark it under that description/class and have proof when it's requested?
