What Does A Salesperson Want? entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Hi, I run a digital marketing agency, as shown here. We specialize in building audiences (i.e. YouTube subscribers, Facebook Likes, Instagram followers, e-mail mailing list subscribers) for e-commerce businesses and startups to convert them into recurring paying customers.

It's coming to my attention that I need to hire a sales team to help boost sales for the agency while my focus switches towards: * assisting the sales team with their leads, * scheduling calls with the leads assembled, * converting those leads assembled, * developing our own audience for the agency, * creating content for the agency to convert followers on social media platforms, * and managing projects internally with the assigned contractors and the clients.

What I Expect from My Sales Team

I am expecting is to get leads from sales people that I would convert and share the profits with them on a monthly basis. So, some of our clients pay us (and it varies, based on quotes and the services): from $240 to amazingly $80,000. Some of these prices are monthly. So, our services would be $1,300 to about $2,000.

I expect to have a sales team who send me a list of qualified leads for me to close them in a Skype (so, it bypasses the prospecting step and expanding my reach to those businesses). I expect about 30-40 leads weekly.

Our comp plan is as follows:

  • 4% of the sale if the lead is cold and no sign is shown that they are looking for any service.
  • 5% of the sale if the lead is warmed or shows signs that they are looking to have this service done (ad, request, conversation on Linkedin or Reddit about needing this done, etc.)

All comp plans are monthly. (So when we close a sale and we get monthly recurring income from that, the salesperson gets that recurring monthly income off of that.)

SIDE-NOTE: This is going to be a remote sales team so that's definitely going to factor into that. I understand that communications and keeping a relationship with them.

TL;DR: Salespeople send a list of prospects, I scheduled calls with them and close them. The services are on a monthly retainer so the salesperson gets that percentage of the retainer.

What I Expect that They Want From Me.....but I don't know.....

I don't expect to throw hired salespeople into the wild - with no sales material to work with and expect instant profit. That would be insane and cruel.

  • I expect to have a fair but competitive comp plan.
  • I expect to build a culture where I am always communicating with my **remote sales team. **
  • I expect to always pay my remote sales on team, every time their converted lead's check comes through so there's no waiting.
  • I expect to be to clear with our sales team about who are we targeting (type of business, desired income, what they want, why they want it, how to best communicate that to them) and how to move them closer to a conversion.
  • I expect to have sales material ready for them to use with the qualified lead, if necessary.

Outside of creating sales material for the sales person to use - and even then, I would like to know how to go about that, I would like to know what salesperson expect from their sales job and how to exceed that for them.

TL;DR: Going to implement a sales team for a digital marketing firm. Besides offering a straightforward, clear-cut comp plan that is lucrative for salespeople. I want to know what else I can do to offer salespeople a great opportunity (even if it's part-time or full-time).
