Are Amazon keyword fields supposed to be used for 'phrases' or filled with unique words not found on your product page? earn by blogging adsense income

My understanding was that the best practice was filling my Amazon listing's keywords with long tail keywords (I'd feel better if these were called 'phrases'). The issue is, I'm now reading about this 250 character index maximum, and it's sounding like I should just take the most relevant words, divide them up into 5 groups, and put that into my keyword backend. What about the language am I not understanding? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
