So should I or shouldn't I cold email ProductHunt influencers to get my project "hunted"? (On PH blog it's said followers don't get notifications anymore, so the old trick doesn't work) entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Rumors had it, there were higher chances to get to Home Page if your project was submitted by a Hunter with hundreds or thousands of followers. Most "I just got featured on Product Hunt home page!" stories confirm that. Your followers are notified about your new submissions, so the more followers you have - the more eyeballs (and potential upvotes) your project gets - I understand the logic and why some makers cold email popular hunters.

So I'm deep diving into this, trying to learn as much as possible, and stumble upon this post on Product Hunt Blog. The following part confuses the hell out of me:

it makes little difference who hunts the product. It used to matter, back in the day when we sent email notification to the hunter’s followers, but we stopped doing that a long time ago. Your time is better spent gathering a small group of people months in advance that are excited about what you are building, rather than an “influencer” who may have little context.

The post was published just a month ago. Is there anyone here who knows how it works now? Am I missing out?
