Where to find an American company to help with metal prototypes? entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

I have an idea for a new product that is extremely similar to an existing product on the market, mine will just be designed differently. The product will be made from metal either steel or aluminum. I have found some big manufacturers overseas but I would like to work with someone more local for a prototype. Anyone know where to start for something like that?

I have already run 2 businesses where I sourced products from China. Sourcing hasn't been an issue, but I've never done the prototyping stage before. I'm looking to launch this product on Kickstarter.
