I keep seeing posts here about using organic social to grow a business and a lot of new entrepreneurs mention using organic reach when they pitch me so I thought I'd just make a post to help people avoid getting fucked like I did a few years ago.
Around 2013/2015 using organic to grow a real business was 100% feasible but that was back when organic reach was actually a thing on FB/IG, but now even YouTube is cutting down on organic reach and FB/IG are literally 1/10th as effective as they were. If you aren't familiar with the concept, it's what percentage of your audience actually sees your posts. In 2013 or so it was like 70%, and now it's more like 7% - 14% if you're lucky.
Do not waste your money hiring a "social media marketer". Instead, hire a killer PPC guy. Organic is still doable but it's being nerfed all the time and I suspect it will be completely dead pretty soon.
The nice thing is that FB is still pretty easy to get dirt cheap clicks on if you're optimized properly so don't get upset if you're broke and need a way to promote your product.
