Requesting input regarding idea & market validation entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Hello all and happy holidays,

I recently had an idea to build a platform to help automate customer retention by sending customers small, physical gifts in the mail (chocolates, custom postcards, even flowers). Over a weekend I hacked together the core functionality. The idea was to expose this functionality via an API, and allows developers to programmatically send these gifts by calling our API.

A hypothetical use case: Upon a user reaching their one year anniversary with Pinterest, the Pinterest application could automatically make a request to my API and a small box of personalized chocolates is sent to that user, with a small note from Pinterest appreciating their year of support.

I've been having difficulty validating this market. There seems to be varying estimations on market size. Corporate gifting is supposedly anywhere between $20-$80 billion a year. However, most "corporate gifts" are in the $25+ range, such as gift baskets, while the products I offer are smaller and cheaper. This allows even independent developers to afford to send branded gifts to numerous customer.

I'm really interested in getting some input on this concept. If you own a business, how much do you spend on branded gifts? If you don't currently spend anything, would you given my lower prices compared to traditional corporate gifts? As mentioned, i've hacked together a lot of the core functionality, but as everyone knows the real work comes after launch.
