Building my own website and then paying for SEO or having a website built with SEO. Will it make a big difference? earn by blogging adsense income

Im building my own website using avada wordpress theme. I understand the basics of on page SEO (titles, meta, H1 ect) but I am by no means an expert. I plan on paying a company to go through and help me with the on page seo and eventually off page seo. Is this a bad idea?

Would a website that is made from the ground up by an SEO company perform better?
