So I've been running my own service company for the last 3 summers doing AC repairs for cars and trucks. That's great, and it's pulled in a decent profit. But running around town working on old rusty cars loses it's attractiveness after a while. I still plan on keeping it going but I'm not investing any money into new gear, or advertising this summer. I'm happy with my client base and word of mouth is doing enough for me.
Instead, I'm going to take my profit this summer and sink it into a online shop. I have several products I plan on selling and I've been researching and learning social media marketing as much as I can.
I'm almost ready to take my project out for it's first test drive, but I'm stuck on one key point. I understand the allure of dropshipping with its low costs, but I am in Canada and I'm worried that my customers will end up getting charged extra fees and duties when they receive the order. This could turn away repeat business as well as cause people to hesitate when ordering.
I have a $1000 budget to get this going so I was thinking I could spend half of that getting inventory that I would ship out from within Canada to avoid these surprise fees.
Benefits would be I could use a free shipping no hidden fees approach and roll the cost of shipping into the item. Buyers would be more likely to order on impulse if they knew they weren't going to have to wait 3 weeks for delivery.
On the other hand I could use that $500 to get additional advertising going and market to all of North America instead of just Canada.
