Hi guys, so long time lurker here on /r/startup, although I might have made a post or two way back when. Anyways, I am the owner and founder of Cajun Maids, a cleaning business located in southern Louisiana. For information on how I became a cleaning business owner, check out /r/EntrepreneurRideAlong (not my subreddit).
Back in early 2013 I came across a posted made by /u/localcasestudy on how he started a cleaning business and was making a shitload of money off of it. Well, like any desperate young college student working in retail hell, I decided I wanted to be a business owner, because that sounds much easier then working (haha).
Between 2013 and early 2017, I would provide update reports to my friends over at /r/EntrepreneurRideAlong and a few Facebook groups I am in. In 2015, something new changed in my reports, I hired a VA (Virtual Assistant) to help me run the business and that really seem to get peoples attention. This lead to countless pms and comments asking: How I found her, How much I pay her, How did I interview her, How did I train her......... the list goes on. In all honesty, I thought nothing of it, I answered the questions and moved on.
Well in March of 2017 something finally clicked after I posted another update report. I gave my good friend Donald a ring with a proposal. See, like me, Donald was also the founder of a cleaning business, but he also had a few other businesses as well. My proposal was he partner up with me and we start a Virtual Assistant business together. After about a week of brainstorming and planning, we had our website (www.CaraHelps.com) and a business plan in place. There were quite a few "VA Businesses" out there, but they were all extremely pricey, and often had ALL VAs working for ALL the clients. This never allowed the VA to perfect and really get to know the companies he/she was working for. Fast forward a week later we had our first client, and by the end of April we were pulling in $10,000/mo in revenue, all with no paid ads and an incomplete website. This surpassed our goal of $10,000/mo by the end of 2017 and so now we are shooting for $50,000/mo by the end of the year.
The moral of the story is that there are countless opportunities around us everyday. We just have to stop and take the time to analyze the situations we are presented with, and learn to capitalize on those opportunities. As usual, if you have any questions feel free to comment or PM me.
