Hi guys, so as the title say, I am an amateur artist.

I love drawing, creating, painting, and thought: why not draw NSFW material to earn money and practice as well? I can train proportions, symmetry, perspective, light and shadow, volume, etc. And besides that, I would do what I love (drawing/painting), and earn money too.

I know a lot of manga and comic book artists started their career as porn artists

Anyway, I found myself a niche (a fetish niche, because just porn/hentai is a bit saturaded) and started posting my arts related to that on some websites (deviantart, pixiv, tumblr, etc). Then some people began to ask for commissions. Thats great.

So far I am asking around 20$ for a commission featuring one or two characters without a background. The problem is that this art usually takes around 8+ hours to make (something I did not expect in the beginning) and its also very tiring. Especially for coloring.

So, thinking of that, I decided to hire some coloring assistants. I went to Fiverr and other forums and got myself some assistants, I am paying them around 5$ to 10$ per piece to color (depending on the complexity).

This way I can produce more and spend less energy. Its ok, I'll earn less, but I'll get more exposure, right?

Anyway, I am thinking of ways to earn more money from this. So far I only have around 40$ on Paypal only xD

I am waiting to get more visibility/exposure and commission requests so I can raise my price.

Maybe I should start a Patreon? I don't really know how Patreon works yet. I wanted to make it open for everyone, so anyone could see my art, and those that desired would donate for me so I could continue working.

But I see a lot of Patreon accounts locking their content to viewers who donate $, $$ or $$$ amounts, and such. Is this the only way to make money? I think its a bit unfair because there are quite a few good people out there that don't have the money or credit card to pay.

If I make a Patreon account with my arts exposed for everyone, will I be backfiring?

So, that's it guys. I am open for discussion, as I am still on the journey to learn how hentai/porn artists make money.
