Job Board Industry Questions for Job Board Software entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

I am a developer and writing a job board web application for a client. This client has an existing niche professional community with an existing job board that is dated. I've researched job products available and their functionality, key people in the field (Chris Russell, a few others) and read their blogs, tried to understand the business model of the various large entities in the ecosystem (Insider, ZipRecruiter, jobg8), and know some of the useful software libraries available (JobApis, I saw the author posted here a year ago or so).

I wonder if anyone with a little knowledge of the niche-job-board industry could point me in the right direction on a few questions. I mostly know the answers for my client. My reason for asking is twofold: (a) to present options to my client that they might not have considered or are unaware of; (b) my contract includes releasing the software fully open source, so I am trying to generalize some features to be useful to others who might want to use the software (it is an extension to the Joomla! CMS, and will have native mobile apps for iOS and Android that are also completely open sourced).

  1. What is the flow and financial implications of resumes between the larger aggregators (Monster, Indeed, ZipRecruiter, Jobg8, etc.) and smaller niche job boards?

(a) My client takes in resumes from applicants on their job board. Right now, those resumes stay on their site. Can they sell those in a fairly standardized way to larger boards? Is there a standard format (API) to put the resumes into, in order to provide them to other boards?

(b) Can my client import resumes from the larger aggregators that match certain criteria (position sought, etc.)? Is it fee-based or how does the financial consideration work? Where do I get information on the API or format that the resumes are provided in, and what companies offer what services? (Neither Indeed nor ZipRecruiter have responded to email).

  1. I know I can do the above (import to my client's job board) for job listings with JobApis software. Those are free and I know there is some financial consideration if someone applies to one of those jobs through my client's job board. I don't understand the API to do this - any pointers? I have old RSS XML examples, no documentation on the sites used for backfilling my client's job board (Monster, ZipRecruiter, Indeed), and no response from the companies themselves to direct email asking about it.

  2. I understand the idea of Application Tracking Systems (ATSs), and see that most of them are software-as-service (Saas) offerings. Any idea on how to get these different vendors to include a job board into an employer's ATS when that employer wants the niche job board as an option to push job postings to? There are five or so large ATS vendors. Do I need to pursue each one individually for this?

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated for making a good job board product.
