Pointers to getting started in a strip mall? entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Hi all,

I'm in my early 20's and in a technical college for Computer Science. I'm currently planning to rent a unit at a strip mall nearby my technical college for a food service type business. It would be geared towards frozen desserts and some snacks, in a specific niche market for a specific audience. I'm a part of that audience so I feel I could dominate my specific market as others are not able to reach to them.

The reason I am posting is to ask for pointers and some advice and answers if any can be given. I am doing my due diligence at the same time, but I figured I would post here and see if I could save a few minutes. I'd like to open as soon as possible, the latest being June.

One of the biggest questions I had was concerning the unit in the strip mall. Currently it is just an empty space with one restroom, concrete floor, and somewhat painted walls. Are there any resources that show remodeling of the insides of these units? I've worked on my home before and I'm confident in my abilities to paint and lay down tile or flooring. I don't plan on doing anything with the electrical or pipes as those are fine already.

Any other general tips, links or resources that I could be pointed to would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.
