How long should my posts be for long tail keywords? earn by blogging adsense income

Hi everyone, I am very new to SEO and have created a couple of blog posts for my site in the last week. All of which are at least 1500 words. I am seeing a lot of people talk about long tail keywords. How do I rank for these? How many searches per month is ideal for a longtail keyword? If anyone could help me or point me in the right direction to learn more about this I would appreciate it. Thanks!
