I was wondering if anyone could please help out by sharing their experience on how they used twitter account to get the real users for their tech startup? I mean actual human users who click through and are interested in your content - not bots or other businesses.
Some of my customers (UK) are on twitter so I tried posting relevant content using hashtags. Using this tactic I got 100+/- users in about 4 months, mind though that half of them are people who use bots. On the other note, I cannot be churning out original content several times a day because this is not sustainable. The biggest issue for me is the lifetime of the tweet as it just does not stick long enough and retweeting the same stuff can get boring for some followers.
After reading numerous posts here and online I made a small experiment whereby I created the twitter account in a similar domain which automatically followed and unfollowed 30-40 accounts daily using one hashtag. I also logged in once a day for less than 5 minutes and retweeted the random tweet on the same hashtag. Very dubious content, absolute shite in fact, got more users and engagement than my real account (140 in one week). I even got couple so-called industry leaders following me. In fairness they are probably botting too.
So, I am beyond lost after this. Obviously the same tactic can be disastrous for the brand and I do not want to do it.
What shall I do? Should I just quit Twitter?
