I'm a software developer & I have a couple of jr developers working with me. I finally realized that sales isn't my skillset & hired a sales rep to help. He's an independent contractor, not an employee. He works form home.
I interviewed him twice & he seemed good. The best from the available candidates. When he started working, I realized he wasn't as technical as I previously thought. He also had good phone presence at first, but when I sat on a call with a prospect, he didn't sound the same.
Today we're only in the second week. I called him at 12:00 PM and he was completely winded. I know that he's a cyclist & caught onto the fact that he is probably at the gym. Letting it slide, he tells me that he needs this Friday off. I begrudgingly agree. Finally I give him a task which is to connect with & understand the last 100 linkedin connections I've made & to see if there is room for work. Instead, he sends the same message to all 100 people. No understanding, no personalization, no thought.
At this point I think I'm done. It's only the second week & I feel like the crazy person firing someone before he can get started, but this is egregious.
Am I in the wrong here? Any insight would help.
