I need some feedback on a business strategy I'm starting on the side (have a full-time job). I'm selling my artwork (stylized pet art) on t-shirts (yes, I know it's common) and postcards, among other planned items in the near future.
I've been prepping all these since the past 1 month. The website is ready (except for uploading my images), and for the most part, I'll be ready to go live in the next couple weeks.
I've been building up my target base on Instagram for the past 1.5 months and currently have about 2k+ real followers and decent engagement rate, and I also do repost of others' images that are related to my IG theme.
My question is : should I focus on building awareness and fanbase and eyeballs at this stage, and start selling the t-shirts only when there's a decent following?
I'm dividing my biz strategy into 3 phases:
1) PHASE 1 : Build awareness on Instagram, buy FB/IG ads, advertise on niche websites and Google Ads, with the sole purpose to drive them to my website for content (without selling anything).
2) PHASE 2 : After I've some success with Phase 1, I'll start selling small ticket items like postcards by getting them printed cheap then offering free international shipping worldwide. The profit margins will be about US$2+ per card, but these will not be my main profit revenue. It's only to create more awareness and site traffic.
3) PHASE 3 : Once I see some success with Phase 1 and 2, I'll start selling t-shirts and other more expensive items like canvas prints etc.
Sounds good? Or can it be further improved? Any constructive advice is greatly appreciated.
