My company has generated 3000+ ORGANIC clicks in the last 3 months. It only took 6 months to get to this point because we avoid ALL the common mistakes other content marketers make entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Hi everyone! The purpose of this post is to talk about some of the mistakes I've seen in content marketing. I've posted on the r/startups and r/entrepreneur subreddits a few times in regards to how to effectively do content marketing and I also did a case study on a piece of content I wrote.

I've had past successes with content marketing and have generated millions of website visits, video views, etc. in my career. I've also learned from plenty of mistakes which is allowing me to grow the content on my newest venture much easier than I have in the past. Click here and see how our analytics have been trending over the last 3 months for organic search. We see 100% increases in google impressions/clicks each month and are growing faster than we can handle which is the best problem to have! Here are 4 common mistakes content marketers are making.

  • Your content sucks! Be subtle, not salesy. Seriously, no one wants to read bad content. I promise that no mater how optimized or long your piece of content is, you're going to struggle to rank organically if it sucks! So what makes content bad? From my personal experience, content that sounds too salesy is the worst content. If all you're trying to do is sell your product or blatantly say what you want the reader to do, THEY WON'T DO IT! EVER. You need to be subtle. Give your reader value and maybe provide them with a solution. That solution might be something you have to offer or maybe it's something else. Content doesn't need to be written with the purpose to sell, but its purpose should be to gain trust. You need to provide value, answer some sort of question, or providing compelling content. It takes time to see the results, but it will be worth it when you do.

  • You don't know what you want to acheive. Your content may be high quality, but it might not have much purpose. That's not all bad. High quality content can be ranked and allow your website's authority to be increase in the long run. Like I said above, even a subtle reference to a call to action will do the trick! Being too blatant and sales oriented won't get you far, but putting no call to action gets you no results either.

  • You're not using SEO tactics effectively. Content marketing and SEO aren't exactly the same thing, but they do go hand in hand. There are a few things that you need to take into account when relating SEO to your content. First of all, learn the basics of keyword research. Tools like google adwords can allow you to see what words are being searched. From there, take some time to see if you'll be able to compete with some of the websites ranking on the first page. Start with long tail keywords and work your way up to shorter terms. For example, you'll have a hard time ranking the term "toilet repair". Something more along the lines of "toilet leaking from the base" is going to be much easier to rank! I used that example because we're on the first page for that keyword and it gets us tons of traffic! ;) Content is also much easier to rank when your title includes the keyword you want to rank for. Going back to the toilet example, our title for that blog is "Why is my toilet leaking from the base?". That is literally what someone might search on Google and you're going to have a much better chance to rank if the search term is exactly what your title is!

  • Don't give up too easily! Content marketing takes much more patience than any other form of marketing, but it can have the highest return on investment if done correctly. The first 10 weeks of our content marketing strategy, we almost saw no results. BUT THAT'S OKAY! From 1 or 2 clicks a day to almost 2000 clicks in our last month was well worth the wait. It all takes time, but your patience will provide a huge reward.

I know this post was brief, but I would highly suggest reading the first two posts that I included in the first paragraph. If you want to master content marketing, those first two post provide great overview and tricks you won't find very easily on the web. I'm more than happy to answer any questions that anyone may have so feel free to message me or leave a comment! Thanks as always for the support and feedback this community provides as well!
