Does anyone have experience in exporting and selling high end artisan products to retailers? entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Some context: I’ve had an idea to collaborate and work with artisans for a long time. It’s a passion of mine, and it’s time for me to get started. Like I’ve mentioned in the title, I want to export high end, hand made artisanal products. The majority being home art/décor/accessories.

I have some connections with master artisans, and I will be working closely with the ones I decide to dive into this venture with.

I mainly need assistance with building relationships with retailers and decision makers to get my foot in the door and show them my line of products, the brand, and the story I am trying to tell.

The idea is to have two main product categories. One being collectible items. These would be quite expensive, but also very high in quality. They will be made by master artisans with +20 years of experience. The other category would be higher quantity produced products. The quality, uniqueness of the product, and story will still be there, however it will require less time to create, and therefore it opens the door to higher quantity and affordability. I would like to aim this category for high end retailers.

I have experience in photography, design, marketing and web design. The products will be sold on the website. These things I can handle. The other sales angle would be to work with high end retailers (physical stores/ online) .This is where I lack experience. How does one work with these retailers? What do they generally require? What are some other questions I should be asking? Based on my research, I’d be mostly working with bases in London and New York.

It’s way too early in the process to contact these retailers, so I'd like to build a proper business model and strategy to open that avenue for sales.

I think working with interior designers would be a smart angle as well.

As I build and work on this project, I can keep the sub posted with more details into the direction and progress (if there's interest of course).
