I'm looking into starting an NPO that would collect donations from organizations and individuals to help artists in my city travel to other countries to do residencies and show their work internationally. The idea came from a similar grant foundation in Kansas City that I received a grant from that completely revolutionized the direction of my artwork and my thinking about my place in the art community. Is there anyone on this thread that has experience starting/running a non profit that maybe has some advice about how to begin to assemble something like this? I have started several for-profit businesses and have some experience in business and budget management. But I understand that an NPO requires a board of at least three individuals not including myself. And that the board members can't be directly involved in daily operations. Is that correct?
