Seeking some advice regarding a web store for a museum shop entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

I am building out an online face for a Museum / Museum store in Amsterdam, with the intention being to sell in the United States.

For our initial, test batch we are importing a chunk of inventory (from the museum store's supplies) to ship from the United States, but looking ahead I see a lot of complexity with this, such as: - Import fees - 'Extra steps' getting the products in - Shipping costs mean sizable shipments required (very hard to simply re-order one thing) - Need to build out shipping, management, etc. in the United States (for now just using extra room in apartment)

I'm now thinking about whether it would be easier all around to simply ship direct from Amsterdam. The biggest market (and source of the most of the museum goers) is the United States, so our initial launch is focused here. My big worry about direct from Europe shipping is the price - looking at other things it is over 20 euros, which I imagine will dissuade purchases.

Would love any thoughts on how to best manage this, in particular:

  • Insights as to whether it is better to import then ship from USA or ship direct from Amsterdam
  • Any thoughts on how to do part 1 better (note many of the products are unique, which is pretty key to the museum store' success and I imagine will be important to online sales as well to mitigate substitutions and 'going to amazon')

Thanks so much!
