Negotiating for a contract entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Hey all,

I'm working on a contract that would be quite large for my company. I want to ask for 100% upfront for the services to be rendered because it requires setting up a satellite office in another state, hiring new people, buying more equipment, and overall taking a fair amount on that can be risky and distract from the main business if I am needing to be there a lot (which is likely the case). However, I got burned once before by coming in a little bit strong on the first offer which resulted in the client just walking with no discussions about negotiating. To be fair, it was a very different type of client and deal, and overall felt strange. My plan b proposal is asking for a little over 50% upfront, with the remainder due after a certain milestone.

What do you people tend to do? Do you find asking for 100% to be risky in most cases?
