When looking at your competitor's backlinks, obviously you only want their best backlinks. So how do you determine that? The entire web is full of Moz' Domain and Page Authority and Majestic's Trust and Citation Flow, however, these metrics are only based the backlinks they find. And let's be serious about it, Moz' OSE is not finding a lot of backlinks at all, and, speaking of our own website, Majestic is not finding a third of them. Ahrefs is finding most of the backlinks, but it's only Mr Google who knows all of them, and in your own search console they're not all shown either. So since the metrics might be totally wrong, how do you know whether or not a backlink is going to be valuable? I believe what you need is common sense. If a website has good metrics but the value from a backlink from that website is questionable, then you might be better off ignoring that website. Or the other way round, a website looking good, but with less impressive metrics can still give you a lot of valuable traffic, which is what you want. This approach will save you a lot of time building a healthy backlink profile.
