Anyone else notice a huge uptick in toxic backlinks in late 2017 to now? earn by blogging adsense income

I have a client with over 20,000 toxic or potentially toxic backlinks, 92% of which were from October 2017 to present.

Here's the kicker: one of the link networks responsible showed up in the backlink audits of two clients, as well as my own website. Seems like we're not alone -- I noticed many other companies complaining about the network in SEO forums (The Globe - The world's most visited web pages, and over 100 domains, yikes!).

Has anyone else noticed the same thing? Any idea why there was so much aggressive spammy backlinking during that time period?
